In a tragic accident on Saturday, a truck fully loaded with goods and bearing the registration number GGE 624 YJ lost control and plunged from the Pen Cinema Bridge in Lagos, crushing two stationary commercial buses beneath.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck driver suffered critical injuries, fracturing both hands. LASTMA operatives at the scene quickly rescued the driver from the mangled vehicle and handed him over to officers from the Elere Police Division. He was subsequently transported to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver lost control while navigating the Pen Cinema Bridge, resulting in the heavy-duty vehicle veering off course and crashing onto two stationary Volkswagen commercial buses parked underneath.
Following the incident, LASTMA officials promptly secured the accident site to prevent further hazards. Traffic was diverted, and operatives from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) worked efficiently to clear the debris and restore smooth traffic flow.
