A devastating accident occurred on Tuesday when an unidentified pedestrian was fatally crushed by a truck at the Iyana-Ishasi U-turn, heading towards Mile 2 in Lagos State.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a similar tragedy less than 24 hours earlier at Ilubirin, near Sura, on the Lagos Third Mainland Bridge.

The accident happened around 11 a.m., involving a fully loaded Howo tipper truck with no visible registration number. The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reported that the accident resulted from a severe brake failure, which caused the truck to lose control while speeding through traffic.

“The out-of-control truck tragically veered off course and struck a pedestrian walking along the roadside, leading to an instant fatality,” Bakare-Oki explained.

He praised the swift response of LASTMA and FRSC officials, who successfully managed the situation. Officers from the Ishasi Police Division also provided security to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the rescue operation.

While extending condolences to the victim’s family, Bakare-Oki urged motorists to prioritize road safety and strictly adhere to traffic rules to avoid such preventable tragedies.
