In a significant military operation, Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized numerous Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents in New Marte, located within Marte Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation, which commenced at approximately 1:35 a.m. on Tuesday, was a response to a recent incursion by the terrorists who had temporarily overrun a military formation in the area.
Marte’s strategic position, bordering Monguno, Dikwa, and Gomboru Ngala LGAs, as well as its proximity to the Lake Chad Basin, has historically made it a focal point for insurgent activities due to its porous borders facilitating terrorist movements from the Sahel region.
Following the initial attack, a coordinated counter-offensive involving both ground troops and aerial support was launched. This joint effort led to the successful recapture of the community and the elimination of several insurgents. According to military sources, the troops engaged the terrorists as they attempted to infiltrate the area, resulting in the neutralization of the attackers and the pursuit of those who fled.
Tragically, the operation was not without loss. The military confirmed via social media that two soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation.
