The Joint Task Force North West Operation Fasan Yamma has successfully dismantled multiple terrorist camps located around Birchi Hill in Danmusa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State. This significant achievement followed reliable intelligence reports that exposed ongoing terrorist activities in the area.
Swift Response to Terrorist Threats
According to a statement released on Thursday by the spokesperson of Operation Fasan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Abubakar, the operation was initiated after credible intelligence uncovered terrorist assaults on local communities in Danmusa, Safana, and Kankara LGAs on December 19, 2024.
The military’s response included precision airstrikes conducted by the Air Component, targeting specific terrorist hideouts in a coordinated offensive. The operation aimed to neutralize threats and dismantle the operational bases of the terrorists.
Ground and Air Collaboration
Following the initial airstrikes, some terrorists attempted to regroup near Birchi Hill, sparking a prolonged and intense confrontation with ground troops. This encounter, which lasted several hours, ended with the superior firepower of the troops overpowering the terrorists.
To further incapacitate the fleeing militants, air platforms tracked those escaping on motorcycles, delivering successful strikes that inflicted heavy casualties.
Elimination of Key Threats
Local sources revealed that the operation resulted in the elimination of several terrorists, including notorious leaders Manore and Dogo Nahalle. Additionally, the destruction of the camps on the high ground has dealt a critical blow to the terrorists’ operational capacity.
Impact on Local Communities
Prior to the operation, communities around Maidabino, Yantumaki, and Mara, as well as other parts of Danmusa and Safana LGAs, faced continuous threats from terrorists, leading to widespread displacement. The recent military success brings hope for a more secure environment.
Reassurance to the Public
Major General Oluyinka Olalekan Soyele, Theatre Commander of Operation Fasan Yamma, reaffirmed the troops’ dedication to combating terrorism and safeguarding the Northwest Zone and Niger State. He urged communities to avoid harboring or supporting criminal elements, emphasizing the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security.
