Arsenal’s head coach, Mikel Arteta, has provided a subtle update regarding the club’s pursuit of Sporting CP’s prolific striker, Viktor Gyokeres, suggesting that a potential agreement might be nearing completion.
The North London club has been locked in prolonged discussions with Sporting CP over the Swedish international, Gyokeres, who is keen on making a return to English football after his impressive run in Portugal.
During a press briefing shortly after Arsenal’s arrival in Singapore for their preseason tour, Arteta was queried about the Gyokeres transfer situation. The Spaniard, however, maintained a cautious stance, stating:
“I cannot comment on any player who is not part of our group yet,” Arteta responded, adhering to the club’s policy of not discussing ongoing transfer targets publicly.
“There’s still time in the window. In terms of numbers, we are short.”
This signals Arsenal’s active presence in the market, with fans hopeful for more acquisitions before the window closes.
For Arsenal supporters, the potential signing of Gyokeres represents a significant boost to the club’s attacking options ahead of the new season, complementing ongoing ambitions to strengthen the squad depth.
