Transfer News: Brentford Confirm Signing of Nigeria-Eligible Star Kaye Furo

Premier League side Brentford have officially announced the signing of Nigerian-eligible youngster Kaye Furo, confirming the arrival of the highly rated defender on a long-term contract.

The English club disclosed that Furo has committed his future to Brentford by signing a five-and-a-half-year deal, marking a major step in his professional career. Although eligible to represent Nigeria or Belgium at international level, the 18-year-old currently aligns more closely with the Belgian national setup.

According to Brentford, Kaye Furo was born in Okrika, Rivers State, Nigeria, but spent the formative years of his life growing up in Belgium, where he also developed his football career. The club highlighted this background in an official post shared on their verified X (formerly Twitter) account.

The young defender comes from a strong football lineage. He is the son of Iyenemi Furo, a former Super Eagles central defender who played a key role in Nigeria’s journey to a second-place finish at the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations. His father was also part of the Dream Team II that represented Nigeria at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in Australia.

At international youth level, Kaye Furo has steadily progressed through Belgium’s national teams. He has featured for the U15 and U16 sides, before making his first competitive appearance with the U17 team during a UEFA European Championship match against Finland. His development continued as he earned opportunities with the U18 and U19 teams.

In September 2025, the 6-foot-3-inch defender reached another milestone when he made his debut for Belgium’s U21 team, further underlining his rapid rise in European football.

Furo joins Brentford after departing Club Brugge, where he spent nine years developing within the club’s structure. During his time in Belgium, he made eight appearances for Club Brugge’s first team and featured in 41 matches for Club NXT, gaining valuable experience at competitive levels.

Brentford’s announcement emphasized both his heritage and ambition, stating that the player has strong Nigerian roots while being shaped by European football culture.

“Roots in Okrika, Nigeria. Raised in Belgium. Ready to make his mark at Brentford,” the club wrote.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews also expressed confidence in the youngster’s potential, stating that he firmly believes Kaye Furo will grow into an important player for the club in the coming years.
