Tragic Brazil Plane Crash Claims Nine Lives In Gramado

A devastating plane crash in Gramado, southern Brazil, claimed the lives of at least nine people on Sunday morning. The small aircraft tragically collided with a commercial area in the popular tourist city, according to local authorities.

The plane, identified as a Piper Cheyenne 400 turboprop, struck the chimney of a building, hit the second floor of a residential house, and ultimately crashed into a furniture store, the Rio Grande do Sul state security secretariat confirmed in an official statement.

Cleber dos Santos Lima, director of the Interior Police Department of the state civil police, stated, “The civil defense has confirmed nine fatalities, and there are no survivors from the crash.”

Authorities are still determining the exact number of passengers and crew on board but initially estimated 10 individuals might have been traveling on the plane.

Additionally, at least 15 people were hospitalized, most of them suffering from smoke inhalation due to the fire caused by the crash.

The ill-fated flight originated from Canela, another tourist hotspot in the Rio Grande do Sul region. Gramado, known for its vibrant tourism industry, sees an increased number of visitors, particularly during the festive Christmas season.
