Suspected Herdsmen Attack Ebonyi Community, Leaving Many Dead and Injured

Horrific Attack in Amegu Nkalaha

Reports from Ebonyi State indicate that suspected herdsmen invaded Amegu Nkalaha Community in Ishielu Local Government Area, resulting in multiple deaths and severe injuries. Many residents fled for safety while others sustained varying degrees of wounds.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, armed with cutlasses and firearms, stormed the village, killing numerous people and setting houses ablaze. As of press time, the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed.

Ongoing Evacuation and Rising Death Toll

The Chairperson of Ishielu LGA, Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, confirmed that evacuation efforts were underway, with victims’ bodies being transported to the mortuary.

“We are currently moving the bodies to the mortuary. I cannot provide further details at the moment, but more updates will follow,” she stated.

Eyewitness Account: A ‘Black Sunday’ for the Community

A respected community member, Professor Ndubuisi Idenyi, who previously served as the EBSU ASUU Chairman, described the event as tragic.

“My village, Amegu Nkalaha, was attacked today by herdsmen. Many lives were lost, and homes were destroyed. It is truly a black Sunday,” he lamented.

He further explained that the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, leaving many dead, several injured, and homes reduced to ashes.

Authorities Yet to Confirm Casualty Figures

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that he had not received official reports of the incident but assured that investigations were ongoing.

Community in Mourning

The gruesome attack has left the Amegu Nkalaha community in shock and mourning. As residents continue to count their losses, authorities are being urged to take swift action to ensure justice and prevent future occurrences.
