Popular reality TV star and disc jockey, Tolanibaj, has advised veteran Afrobeats musicians whose creativity has dwindled to gracefully step away from the music scene.

Tolanibaj stressed that retiring should not be seen as a failure but as a wise move to protect their hard-earned legacies. She cautioned that continuing to release lackluster tracks risks damaging their brands.

Her remarks come in the wake of widespread backlash surrounding the latest musical releases from top Afrobeats figures like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, with fans and critics actively debating their work across social media platforms.

Tolanibaj went on to recommend a path forward, suggesting that these legends should consider becoming music executives, helping to mentor and promote emerging talents. She cited Olamide and Don Jazzy as prime examples of artists who have successfully transitioned into influential industry figures.

She emphasized,

“There’s no shame in stepping away. It’s far better to protect your brand than to saturate it with mediocre songs. Many great artists are guilty of this. If your past discography was top-tier, maintain that standard. It’s even better to explore other avenues like becoming a lifestyle influencer than to keep putting out uninspired music.”
