Muhammadu Buhari Reveals He Lives on Rental Income from Kaduna Property
Former President Muhammadu Buhari has opened up about how he sustains himself financially, disclosing that he relies on rental income from one of his two houses in Kaduna State. This revelation highlights his commitment to transparency and accountability during and after his time in office.
Buhari made this statement during an All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting held on January 25 at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Katsina State Government House. He emphasized that despite Nigeria’s challenges, he refrained from illicitly enriching himself during his eight-year presidency.
Buhari’s Modest Property Portfolio
Speaking in Hausa, Buhari shared details of his property ownership, revealing that he has only three houses:
- One in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State
- Two in Kaduna State, with one rented out to cover his daily living expenses
“After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses; one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for renting where I get money for feeding,” he explained.
Challenges of Leading a Diverse Nation
The former president reflected on the complexities of governing a diverse country like Nigeria. According to Buhari, many Nigerians are unaware of the challenges leaders face until they step into administrative roles.
“Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but most Nigerians are unaware. You will not understand the complexities of leadership and the country itself until you find yourself in the administrative position of the country,” he remarked.
A Healthier and More Relaxed Buhari
Since leaving office, Buhari shared that his health and overall well-being have significantly improved.
“I look much better and healthier now than when I was the president of the country. Anybody that sees me now acknowledges that I look better than before,” he said with relief.
The former president also reiterated his commitment to integrity, asserting that no one could accuse him of corruption during his time in office.
APC Meeting: Preparing for Katsina’s Local Government Elections
The APC caucus meeting, where Buhari spoke, was part of the party’s preparations for the upcoming local government elections in Katsina State. His reflections provided a moment of introspection amidst discussions on the future of local governance in the state.
Conclusion
Muhammadu Buhari’s lifestyle and reflections on governance serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability and transparency in leadership.
