In the early hours of Wednesday, tragedy struck the bustling Alaba Rago Market in Ojo, Lagos State, as a devastating fire swept through the area, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The inferno reportedly began around midnight, leaving shop owners and traders counting their losses as flames consumed their properties.
Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown at the time of this report, emergency responders were swift in their efforts. Teams from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), and other agencies worked tirelessly to control the blaze.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, and Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that the fire was successfully contained, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.
While the damage is extensive, authorities are urging calm as investigations continue to determine the root cause of the incident.
