Tinubu’s Bold, Tough Reforms Are Transforming Nigeria – Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Declares

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for introducing bold, decisive, and sometimes tough policy reforms aimed at driving long-term transformation in Nigeria’s economy, governance, and infrastructure.

Governor Mbah emphasized that the Enugu State Government will continue to stand solidly behind President Tinubu to ensure the success of his administration’s policies, describing the president’s initiatives as both visionary and beneficial to citizens in the long run.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the Enugu State Government House on Thursday, Governor Mbah noted that Tinubu’s leadership style since assuming office has been marked by a firm commitment to citizen engagement and transparency.

He pointed out that immediately after taking office, the president signed Executive Order 001, which mandates effective public engagement and quarterly accountability reports to Nigerians. According to Mbah, this is a crucial step toward restoring public trust in governance.

The Minister, who led a delegation comprising directors-general, managing directors, and other senior officials under the Ministry of Information, was in Enugu to inspect federal projects and interact with the people of the state.

Enugu’s Transformation Under Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Before the Tinubu administration, Enugu State struggled financially, often unable to pay salaries promptly after receiving federal allocations—making capital projects a distant priority. However, Governor Mbah revealed that this has significantly changed under the current economic reforms.

“Today, not only are we paying salaries promptly, but we are also embarking on massive development projects,” Mbah said. “Thanks to the president’s bold initiatives and tough decisions. Yes, there is temporary discomfort, but the long-term benefits far outweigh the short-term challenges.”

He further explained that the removal of fuel subsidies and the elimination of arbitrage in the foreign exchange market have helped unify Nigeria’s exchange rate system, creating a more stable economic environment.

Smart Green Schools & AI-Driven Education

Governor Mbah highlighted that Enugu is currently constructing 7,000 brand-new classrooms under the Smart Green Schools initiative, which incorporates 21st-century learning facilities.

Each school will be equipped with:

• Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) centres
• Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) studios
• Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) learning labs

These facilities aim to prepare students for the future of work, with advanced STEM-based education models.

Modern Primary Healthcare for All

The governor also revealed plans to build 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres—one for each ward in Enugu State. Each centre will include:

• Staff quarters
• 25 KVA solar power systems to guarantee uninterrupted electricity supply

This initiative is designed to provide 24/7 healthcare access to rural communities, aligning with the federal government’s grassroots development strategy.

Boosting Aviation and Trade

Governor Mbah thanked President Tinubu for approving the concessioning of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, which will make the international wing fully operational and position the state as an aviation and trade hub in the region.

He stressed, “We deeply appreciate the president’s commitment. We see strong alignment between our state’s priorities and the federal government’s goals. We will continue to support him because these projects and policies are uplifting Nigerians.”
