Tinubu’s Administration Revitalizes NDDC, Says Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council

The youth division of the leading Igbo socio-cultural body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s government for breathing new life into the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The group asserted that the current administration has successfully restored hope and credibility in the commission’s operations.

According to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the NDDC Board, which President Tinubu inaugurated earlier this year, represents a pivotal shift in the trajectory of the commission that has existed for 25 years. This significant observation was made by the National President of the Youth Council, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement issued on Thursday.

Okwu emphasized that the new board has revived the core purpose for which the NDDC was established. He referenced the remarkable accomplishments recently showcased during the commission’s 25th anniversary celebrations, describing them as truly encouraging and indicative of purposeful leadership.

Highlighting the efforts of the current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the NDDC, Mr. Samuel Ogbuku, Okwu praised his leadership and commitment. He noted that Ogbuku has shown exceptional capacity to rejuvenate the commission, thereby validating its existence and impact.

Okwu further remarked that the current administration marks a clear departure from past experiences where much was promised but little was delivered. He expressed particular satisfaction with the numerous development projects that are now visible in oil-producing regions of the South-East, specifically Imo and Abia States.

“We commend President Bola Tinubu for assembling the current NDDC Board. This is distinctly different from what we previously experienced.”

He added that the current leadership of the NDDC has made it a point to ensure that every oil-producing community feels included and valued. The board’s approach has been both comprehensive and inclusive.

“There are various ongoing initiatives, such as road construction, water supply projects, and street lighting in the designated regions of Imo and Abia States,” he elaborated.

Okwu also lauded the commission for involving all regions in the 25th anniversary celebrations, ensuring that every community feels connected to the NDDC’s mission and achievements.

He observed that in many communities, NDDC projects remain the only significant form of government intervention. This, he argued, is a testament to President Tinubu’s strategic appointment of capable individuals to the commission’s leadership.

Okwu concluded by urging the NDDC Board to maintain this momentum and continue advancing development projects that have rekindled hope among the oil-producing populations.

“We encourage the Board not to rest on its laurels but to persist in driving consistent progress that sustains hope and development in these vital communities,” he stated.
