ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu emphasized Africa’s progress in overcoming poverty and solidifying democratic values while addressing critics of the continent’s development. Speaking at the inauguration of Ghana’s new President, John Mahama, in Accra, Tinubu stressed that Africa has already demonstrated its democratic competence and no longer needs to prove itself to outsiders.

He praised Ghana’s peaceful democratic transition, highlighting it as a testament to Africa’s commitment to good governance and self-determined growth. Tinubu urged critics to acknowledge the progress made by Nigeria, Ghana, and other African nations in embracing democracy while allowing the continent to advance at its own pace.

He declared, “We are committed to lifting our people out of poverty and building a resilient economy. We have nothing to prove to anyone but ourselves.”

Tinubu commended Ghana’s historical achievements and the legacy of its first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, as a guiding force for continued progress. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering support for Ghana under President Mahama’s leadership, emphasizing a shared history, hope, and unity across the continent.

The Nigerian President expressed confidence in Mahama’s leadership, highlighting his patriotic vision and dedication to Ghana’s progress. He assured that Nigeria would continue collaborating closely with Ghana to strengthen bilateral relations and drive regional prosperity.

Encouraging further cooperation, Tinubu called for renewed focus on subregional integration to address poverty, youth unemployment, and security challenges. He concluded by wishing Ghana continuous democratic growth, progress, and prosperity, envisioning a brighter future filled with hope and opportunity for the entire region.
