President Tinubu’s Swift Changes to the SEDC Board
President Bola Tinubu has made significant changes to the board of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), just a day after submitting the initial nominees to the Senate for confirmation.
Key Replacements
In the revised list, Tinubu replaced both the chairman and several executive directors:
- Emeka Nworgu was appointed as the new chairman, replacing Emeka Atuma.
- The list of nominees for executive directors also saw a shake-up:
- Stanley Ohajuruka now serves as the Executive Director for Finance, replacing Anthony Ugbo.
- Toby Okechukwu has taken over as the Executive Director of Projects from Obinna Obiekweihe.
- Chief Sylvester Okonkwo is the new Executive Director of Corporate Services, replacing Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja.
- Chidi Echeazu and Dr. Clifford Ogbede were added as Executive Directors without portfolios.
Other Notable Adjustments
While Mark Okoye retains his role as the Managing Director and CEO of the SEDC, Donatus Nwankpa has been removed from the board. Additionally, several other board members retained their positions:
- Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah
- Hon. Okey Ezenwa
- Chief Hyacinth Ikpor
- Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu
- Nasiru Usman
- Hamma Adama Ali Kumo
- Edward David Onoja
- Orure Kufre Inima
- Chief (Mrs.) Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma
President’s Expectations
According to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the changes are part of Tinubu’s vision to ensure the effective execution of the SEDC’s mandate. The nominees are expected to focus on fostering development and delivering impactful results in the South-East region.
All appointments are pending Senate confirmation.
