Tinubu May Lose 2027 Election Like Jonathan If Insecurity Persists – Northern Elder Warns

A prominent Northern elder and political analyst, Alhaji Dabo Sambo, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address the intensifying insecurity and banditry affecting the northern region of Nigeria.

Sambo cautioned that failure to decisively tackle the security crisis could severely jeopardize Tinubu’s prospects of securing a second term in 2027.

In an interview with journalists, Sambo identified security as the nation’s foremost concern, emphasizing that the lives and properties of Nigerians remain under constant threat.

He noted that safeguarding citizens is one of the government’s key duties, warning that failing to fulfill this responsibility would have serious political consequences for the president.

“If President Tinubu does not eliminate the security problems, he will not succeed in the 2027 election,” Sambo said. He compared the current situation to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s loss in 2015, which he linked to the government’s inability to curb rising insecurity.

“The days when politicians handed out packets of noodles and salt during election campaigns are long gone,” he remarked.

“Voters now demand safety and access to food. Without these essentials, they won’t cast their votes,” he asserted.

Sambo further explained that the North-West and North-East regions, which contribute over 60% of Nigeria’s food production, have been devastated by persistent bandit attacks and abductions.

He stated that acts of terrorism have forced many farmers to abandon their land, significantly reducing agricultural productivity and fueling price inflation and hunger.

“Food is becoming increasingly scarce in Nigeria, and citizens are going hungry,” Sambo emphasized, linking the current food shortage directly to the insecurity ravaging the North-East and North-West, where the majority of farming activity occurs.

He also discussed the broader economic consequences of insecurity, including the weakening of the Naira, steep transportation costs, and soaring inflation, all of which continue to erode the savings of ordinary Nigerians.

Sambo insisted that Tinubu must implement concrete measures within the next six months to control the security crisis and revitalize local farming operations within the following year.

He concluded with a warning that failing to act could result in a similar outcome to that of President Jonathan in 2015, who lost re-election largely due to unresolved insecurity and economic hardship.
