Tinubu's Reaction To 4% Votes In Abia State – Orji Kalu Urges South East To Join Mainstream Politics

Former Governor of Abia State and current Senator for Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has emphasized the importance of the South East aligning with Nigeria’s mainstream political landscape to maximize national benefits.

In a post shared via his verified Facebook page, Senator Kalu revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed disappointment over receiving only 4% of votes in Abia State during the 2023 presidential election.

He described the low voter turnout for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia as troubling, especially considering the caliber of APC leaders present in the state during the polls.

Senator Kalu called on APC members across Abia State to foster unity and remain committed to ensuring victory for the party in the 2027 general elections. He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting he organized at his Abuja home aimed to rally party members and strengthen the spirit of solidarity, stressing that Governor Alex Otti was not part of their agenda.

Clarifying rumors, Kalu stated he made no critical remarks about Governor Otti’s administration, reaffirming his policy of refraining from public commentary about his successors. He added that it is solely the electorate’s duty to judge and decide the performance of their leaders.

Reflecting on the APC’s political performance, Kalu said:

“In 2019 when I joined the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari secured 68% of the votes in our constituency. In contrast, President Tinubu managed just 4% in the entire Abia in 2023. This result left him deeply concerned. Despite having strong allies in Abia, including myself, the outcome was disappointing. I found it hard to believe as well.”
