Tinubu Departs Japan, Heads to Brazil for State Visit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night, en route to Brazil, where he will begin a state visit on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

According to a statement released by his Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Nigerian leader will first make a stopover in Los Angeles, United States, before proceeding to Brasília, the Brazilian capital, where his official visit will commence.

LMSINT MEDIA reports that this trip represents the second phase of President Tinubu’s two-nation diplomatic tour, which officially began with his departure from Abuja on August 15, 2025.

First Leg of the Tour – Japan Visit

On his journey to Japan, the president briefly stopped in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), before landing in Yokohama on August 18, 2025.

During his stay in Japan, President Tinubu actively participated in the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). He attended both the opening ceremony and the plenary sessions held on August 20, 2025.

Beyond the conference, the Nigerian president also held several bilateral meetings with Japanese government officials, private sector leaders, and development partners. These engagements focused on strengthening Nigeria-Japan relations, boosting economic partnerships, and encouraging Japanese investment in Nigeria’s key sectors, including infrastructure, renewable energy, and technology innovation.

Engagement with Nigerians in Japan

As part of his official itinerary, Tinubu concluded his stay in Japan with an interactive town hall meeting with Nigerians in the diaspora on Thursday evening in Yokohama.

During the session, he praised their contributions to Nigeria’s national development, urging them to remain responsible ambassadors while also encouraging them to explore opportunities for diaspora-led investments in Nigeria’s economy.

Brazil State Visit – Second Phase of the Tour

According to the presidency, the Brazilian visit will place strong emphasis on areas of shared cooperation, including agriculture, energy transition, and regional security.

While in Brazil, President Tinubu will engage in high-level diplomatic discussions with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and other senior Brazilian officials.

The president is also expected to meet with the Nigerian community in Brazil, where he will share updates on government policies and urge greater diaspora involvement in nation-building.

After concluding his official engagements, President Tinubu will return to Nigeria.
