President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed Sylvester Nwakuche as the Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). This decision follows the completion of Haliru Nababa’s tenure as the outgoing Controller-General.
The appointment was announced through a statement released by Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary to the Civil Defence, Immigration, Fire Service, and Correctional Service Board (CDCFIB), on Friday in Abuja. According to Ahmed, Nwakuche’s new role will commence on Sunday, marking a new chapter for the NCoS.
Highlighting Nwakuche’s qualifications, Ahmed described his appointment as a recognition of his extensive experience and dedication to the Service. President Tinubu further tasked Nwakuche to leverage his expertise to ensure the continued transformation and efficiency of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Born on November 26, 1966, in Oguta, Imo State, Nwakuche is an accomplished officer with a long-standing history of service. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Deputy Controller General (DCG) in charge of the Training and Staff Development Directorate. In this capacity, he significantly contributed to the development of training policies and initiatives that improved the capacity of the NCoS workforce.
Nwakuche is also a Fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds the prestigious national honor of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR). His leadership is expected to build on the achievements of his predecessor while introducing innovative strategies to advance the NCoS mandate.
