Tinubu Appoints Former INEC Chairman Attahiru Jega As Special Adviser On Livestock Reforms

President Bola Tinubu has named Professor Attahiru Jega, the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the Special Adviser and Coordinator for Presidential Livestock Reform.

The announcement was made on Friday by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, highlighting that Jega will spearhead initiatives aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s livestock sector to foster economic growth and national stability.

Jega’s Role in Livestock Reforms

Before his appointment, Jega co-chaired the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms alongside President Tinubu. The committee proposed significant changes, including the establishment of a dedicated Ministry of Livestock Development, which is expected to address longstanding challenges in animal husbandry, herder-farmer conflicts, and livestock management in Nigeria.

Jega’s Professional Background

Professor Attahiru Jega, a renowned academic and administrator, previously served as the vice chancellor of Bayero University, Kano. He is currently the pro-chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education and an active member of the International Elections Advisory Council.

From 2010 to 2015, he played a crucial role in Nigeria’s democratic process as INEC chairman, overseeing landmark elections and implementing electoral reforms.
