Manchester United Wins Tactical System Under Ruben Amorim

The Premier League: “‘System still the same’ Danny Murphy explains why Manchester United are winning matches”

Former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy has drawn attention to the underlying causes of Manchester United’s recent run of positive results in England’s top flight. According to Murphy, the Old Trafford side appear to have rediscovered a measure of consistency, and he believes the key factor behind their uptick lies not in a wholesale change of personnel, but rather in the stability of their tactical framework and system.

Under the direction of manager Rúben Amorim, Manchester United have recorded three wins from three games—a record which suggests that the Portuguese coach may have turned the tide for the club, at least for now. Amorim has brought renewed impetus to a squad that had been searching for identity, and Murphy argues that the underlying system being used is a major reason for the improved outcomes.

Murphy’s analysis emphasises that when a club uses a consistent template week after week, players become more familiar with their roles and patterns of play, and this leads to clearer execution. In his view, United’s recent victories have come because the players are internalising the system, showing sharper coordination and fewer tactical hiccups. That said, he cautions that simply winning matches now does not guarantee long‐term success unless the structure remains intact and the club continues to refine its approach.

He further points out that while new signings and fresh faces always carry intrigue, the real difference for Manchester United has been that the team is no longer reinventing itself every week: the system has “still the same” shape, but with improved coherence and sharper application on the pitch. In other words, the familiarity of formation, defined roles and a coherent plan have allowed the players to deliver results.

However, Murphy also intimates that this positive spell may hinge on the continued stability of the system. Any sudden shifts, dramatic tactical overhauls or disruptions in the setup could undermine the progress made. The message is clear: success is built not only on talent, but on the architecture that supports it. For Manchester United, the fact that the system remains essentially the same—but better executed is the explanation Murphy gives for the recent string of wins.
