Details of the Borno Attack
The attack in Dumba, located in Kukawa Local Government Area on the fringes of Lake Chad, was particularly devastating. The victims were mostly farmers and fishermen. According to Professor Usman Tar, Borno State’s Commissioner for Information, initial investigations reveal that approximately 40 farmers were killed, while others are still missing.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum condemned the attack, urging the military under Operation Hadin Kai to intensify efforts in tracking and eliminating insurgents in the Lake Chad area.

Governor Zulum expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, saying:
“With deep sorrow, I sympathize with the victims’ families. I assure the citizens of Borno that this attack will be thoroughly investigated, and we will track down the perpetrators of this heinous act.”

Reports suggest that the farmers strayed beyond the security corridors designated by the military for safe farming activities. These areas are often prone to nocturnal terrorist attacks and are still contaminated with landmines.
Governor Zulum called on residents to adhere to the safety guidelines, emphasizing:
“The government has demarcated areas for safe farming to ensure security. Citizens must avoid unsafe zones to allow the military to concentrate on clearing these areas of terrorist threats.”
Nasarawa Attack: 10 Killed in Night Raid
In another deadly incident, terrorists attacked Tatara village in the Panda development area of Nasarawa State, killing at least 10 people.
Eyewitness Account
According to residents, the attack began with sporadic gunfire from a shop where three people were killed. Moments later, armed men, allegedly riding motorcycles, stormed the village and killed an additional seven individuals before fleeing.
Some sources claim the attackers were Fulani militants from nearby communities, while others suggest they were fleeing terrorists from Zamfara and Katsina States, escaping the ongoing military offensives in those regions.
Government and Security Efforts
Residents of Nasarawa expressed concerns about the increasing influx of terrorists into the state, especially in areas with mining activities. The state government has previously collaborated with the military to flush out terror groups, but recent attacks highlight the urgent need for reinforced security measures.
