The Bible tells us in Numbers 21 how the children of Israel, as a result of their rebellion and unbelief, were bitten by venomous serpents and many of them died. As a result, they came to Moses and pleaded with him to pray to the Lord to take away the serpents. Moses prayed for the people, and God instructed him to make a fiery serpent of bronze and set it on a pole. He told Moses that anyone who had been bitten could look at the bronze serpent to be healed. Moses obeyed God’s command, fashioned the bronze serpent, and raised it on the pole. Whenever anyone who had been bitten by a snake looked at the bronze serpent, they lived. All they had to do was “look” and they lived. In John 3:14, Jesus drew a parallel between the bronze serpent that Moses lifted in the wilderness and His own crucifixion. Just as the Israelites were healed from venomous snake bites by looking at the bronze serpent, He indicated that He had to be lifted up on the cross so that all who believed in Him would receive eternal life: “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up” (John 3:14 NKJV). Police Statement on the Tragic Event The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed the details in a statement released on Sunday in Lagos. According to Hundeyin, the electrician met his untimely death while working on live electricity cables connected to a pole in Shasha. “The electrician lost his life while reconnecting electricity cables to an electric pole at Shasha,” the police statement read. Emergency Response and Hospital Confirmation Immediately after the tragic event was reported, police detectives and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. The victim was quickly rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, despite medical efforts, he was later confirmed dead by the attending doctor. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), operating under the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command, has intercepted two 40-foot containers filled with expired pharmaceutical products, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N130 million. The interception was announced by the Customs Area Controller, KLT Command, Comptroller Eghosa Edelduok, during a press briefing in Lagos over the weekend. The disclosure was made while presenting the Command’s official performance report for the first half of 2025. According to Comptroller Edelduok, the seized containers, identified with registration numbers HLBU 1067338 and HLBU 2239792, were intercepted by the enforcement team of the Command during routine anti-smuggling operations. She emphasized that the consignment of expired drugs contravened the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, as well as other relevant Nigerian importation laws designed to safeguard public health and safety. “The intercepted containers, loaded with expired pharmaceutical drugs, have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action,” Edelduok confirmed. She reiterated that the seizure reflects the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against illegal importation, stressing that protecting Nigerians from harmful goods remains a core mandate of the NCS. Revenue Performance in the First Half of 2025 While addressing the Command’s operational results, Comptroller Edelduok highlighted a significant revenue achievement. She reported that the KLT Command generated N89.2 billion between January and June 2025, showing a remarkable 63% increase when compared with the N54.8 billion recorded in the same period in 2024.
