Political Tensions Escalate Over Local Government Leadership in Osun The ongoing political standoff in Osun State has intensified as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remain at odds over the Court of Appeal’s ruling on local government elections. APC Demands Recognition of Reinstated Chairmen The APC has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of misrepresenting the court verdict, urging him to publicly acknowledge the reinstatement of its council chairmen and councillors. According to the party, the Attorney-General of the Federation confirmed the legal authority of the reinstated officials over the local governments. In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, called on Adeleke to halt any obstruction of local government administration. The APC maintains that the Court of Appeal’s decision on 10 February 2025 legally restored its members to office. The party further alleged that Governor Adeleke ignored legal counsel and proceeded with the 22 February 2025 local government elections despite no legitimate vacancies existing at the time. It also claimed that Adeleke’s representatives held discussions with the Attorney-General concerning the ruling, emphasizing that the governor’s administration was unlawfully managing local government allocations. The APC warned that continued interference would amount to a violation of the rule of law. PDP Denies APC’s Claims, Defends February Elections On the other hand, the Osun PDP has rejected the APC’s assertions, arguing that no court ruling reinstated the dismissed officials. In a statement signed by Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, the party accused the APC of spreading misinformation to mislead the public and undermine judicial integrity. The PDP questioned why the APC submitted a fresh application at the Court of Appeal if its officials had already been reinstated. The party reaffirmed that the judgement nullifying the October 2022 elections remains valid. Furthermore, the PDP criticized the APC for allegedly twisting the stance of the Attorney-General of the Federation. According to the PDP, the legal documents submitted to the Attorney-General clearly justified the February 2025 local government elections conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC). The party condemned the APC for what it described as an attempt to forcefully seize power through unconstitutional means. The PDP warned that such political maneuvers pose a serious threat to democracy and urged the public to resist any illegitimate takeover of power. Osun Political Battle: What Happens Next? As tensions continue to rise, both parties remain steadfast in their legal positions. While the APC insists that its chairmen and councillors should be recognized, the PDP maintains that the court invalidated their election results. Observers anticipate that this legal and political struggle may have significant implications for the governance and administration of local councils in Osun State. Fada Oluoma Condemns ‘Holy Ghost Fire’ Prayers Against Enemies Nigerian Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Chinenye Oluoma, has openly criticized the use of ‘Holy Ghost fire’ prayers to attack perceived enemies, describing it as an antichrist practice. In a video shared on his verified Facebook page, Fr. Oluoma explained that invoking Holy Ghost fire against adversaries contradicts the teachings of Christ. He emphasized that those who engage in such prayers do not possess the Spirit of God but rather the spirit of the antichrist. ‘Holy Ghost Fire’ Not Meant for Deliverance – Oluoma According to the priest, the phrase ‘Holy Ghost fire’ was never used in biblical deliverance. Instead, Jesus Christ himself taught that deliverance occurs through His name. “Those who are anointed get transformed. What matters is the Spirit of God that fills you. If you pray ‘Holy Ghost fire’ against enemies, you have expelled the Spirit of God and embraced the spirit of the antichrist,” he declared. He further cautioned against using prayers to destroy supposed enemies, stating: “Many Christians unknowingly practice the spirit of the antichrist by invoking Holy Ghost fire against their enemies. If you say, ‘Every enemy that wants to stop me this year, Holy Ghost fire!’ then you are part of the antichrist movement.” Misinterpretation of ‘Holy Ghost Fire’ in Modern Christianity Fr. Oluoma questioned how Christians started incorporating ‘Holy Ghost fire’ into prayers, labeling it a misinterpretation of biblical teachings. He explained that casting out demons or conducting spiritual deliverance should only be done in the name of Jesus Christ—not through invoking Holy Ghost fire. “Nowhere in the Bible is ‘Holy Ghost fire’ used in deliverance. When dealing with evil spirits, the correct phrase is ‘In the name of Jesus Christ.’” The cleric urged Christians to enlighten others on this misguided prayer practice, stressing that biblical prayer should align with Christ’s instructions. For a deeper understanding of biblical deliverance prayers, you can refer to this Catholic teaching on prayer and exorcism. Former Presidential Aide Reno Omokri Reveals Why He Vowed to Destroy Obidient Movement Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has disclosed the reason behind his firm decision to dismantle the Labour Party’s (LP) Obidient Movement. Omokri, an ardent supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stated in an interview with News Central that his stance against the movement is rooted in his past political involvement with Peter Obi. Peter Obi Was My Political Project – Omokri Omokri explained that he played a pivotal role in making Peter Obi the running mate of Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election. He emphasized that he has records and documents to support this claim. According to him, members of the Obidient Movement launched personal attacks against him, his wife, and his child. These attacks, he claimed, escalated to the point where his family’s safety was at risk. “Peter Obi’s movement, Obidients, started attacking me, threatening me, and insulting me. Initially, I ignored them. However, when they extended these threats to my family, I had to take action. My wife and I were trailed while jogging in the United Kingdom, and my child was also threatened,” Omokri stated. Vow to Destroy the Obidient Movement Omokri further disclosed that after Peter Obi failed to intervene and address his concerns, he resolved to use all political resources at his disposal to weaken the Obidient Movement. “I took an oath to dismantle that movement because Peter Obi was a project of mine. I was responsible for making him Atiku’s running mate in 2019. But when Obidients started attacking my family, I had no choice but to fight back,” he asserted. Backlash and Political Reactions Omokri’s statement has sparked widespread reactions across political circles. While some critics see his stance as an attempt to discredit the Obidient Movement, others argue that his grievances reflect the increasing toxicity in Nigeria’s political discourse. Conclusion The Obidient Movement, which gained massive support in the 2023 elections, remains one of the most vocal political groups in Nigeria. Omokri’s vow to destroy the movement adds another layer to the ongoing political discourse surrounding Peter Obi’s influence in Nigerian politics. Igbo Community Demands Apology from Sen. Nwebonyi Over Verbal Assault on Ezekwesili The Igbo Community Association FCT has issued a strong demand for Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North, to publicly apologize to former Minister of Education, Dr. Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, for making derogatory remarks about her at the National Assembly. The association warned that failure to tender a public apology would result in mass protests against the senator. This call was made in an official statement released by the President-General of the Igbo Community Association FCT, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, and shared with journalists on Thursday. Condemning the Disrespectful Remarks In the statement, the group expressed deep disappointment over the senator’s actions, describing them as an affront to both Oby Ezekwesili and the broader Igbo community. “It is disgraceful to witness a sitting senator openly insult a woman who is widely regarded as an Amazon by Nigerians, especially within the Igbo-speaking regions,” the statement read. The group further emphasized that the timing of the attack was particularly troubling, as it occurred during a Senate hearing on Senator Natasha Uduaghan’s sexual harassment allegations. “This incident highlights the lack of respect that the Senate, dominated by men, exhibits toward women. It sends the wrong message about the treatment of women in Nigeria’s political space,” the statement added. Calls for Sanctions and Protests The association urged the Senate to take disciplinary action against Senator Nwebonyi, labeling him “an embarrassment to the red chamber and to Igbo men.” “The senator must apologize, not only to Oby Ezekwesili but to the entire Igbo community. We, the Igbo people in Abuja, demand a public apology, or we will be left with no choice but to take action,” the group asserted. Highlighting Ezekwesili’s distinguished service to Nigeria, the association insisted that she did not deserve such disrespect. “We are prepared to organize a large-scale protest against the Senate’s unfair treatment of women. This behavior must not go unchallenged.” For further updates on Nigeria’s Senate proceedings, visit Premium Times READ ALSO: Follow the LMSINT MEDIA channel on WhatsApp: Join Our WhatsApp Group Hear: Chat on WhatsApp Join our Telegram Channel

Intersociety Calls for Legislative and Judicial Investigation into Onitsha Drug Market Shutdown A prominent civil rights organization, the International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), has called for an urgent legislative public hearing and a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the controversial role played by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and security forces in the extended closure of the Onitsha Drug Market. According to Intersociety, the prolonged market shutdown has significantly impacted traders, their families, and the public due to the high cost and scarcity of essential medicines. The group specifically pointed out the involvement of Nigerian Army personnel from Onitsha 302 Cantonment and police officers from the Anambra State Command and Zone 13 in alleged human rights violations and economic sabotage. This demand was issued in a statement signed by Chinwe Umeche (Head of Democracy and Good Governance Program), Chidinma Evangeline Udegbunam (Head of Campaign and Publicity), Obianuju Joy Igboeli (Head of Civil Liberties and Rule of Law), and Emeka Umeagbalasi (Board Chair of Intersociety). Five Key Issues Raised by Intersociety Intersociety highlighted five major concerns that need urgent attention: The civil rights group expressed dissatisfaction with the efforts made by Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo and Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze, stating that their interventions were inadequate. It urged them to take more decisive actions to protect traders and their businesses. Short-Term and Long-Term Solutions for Onitsha Drug Market To resolve the crisis, Intersociety proposed two key solutions: Short-Term Measures Long-Term Solutions Intersociety condemned NAFDAC’s imposition of a ₦500,000 ‘Poor Storage Fee’ on each sealed shop—including non-pharmaceutical businesses like boutiques and food vendors—describing it as regulatory extortion. Impact of the Market Closure on Traders and the Public The ongoing closure, which entered its 47th day on March 26, 2025, has caused severe economic hardships: According to Intersociety, the market closure has transformed NAFDAC from a regulatory agency into an extortionist body that prioritizes revenue generation over public health. NAFDAC’s Controversial Charges on Importers and Retailers Further accusations against NAFDAC include imposing excessive charges on drug importers and retailers: Intersociety also reported that a boutique owner, Sophia Eberechukwu Okoye from Ezinifite-Aguata, Anambra State, lost over ₦15 million worth of goods due to looting. Video evidence allegedly links NAFDAC operatives to the ransacking of her store. UK PM Starmer Says Putin is Not Serious About Peace Talks British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin as an unserious participant in peace negotiations, stating that his actions contradict his statements. In contrast, Starmer acknowledged that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demonstrated genuine commitment to finding a resolution. Speaking ahead of a high-level summit in Paris, where Kyiv’s allies were set to gather on Thursday, Starmer criticized Putin’s inconsistent approach to diplomatic efforts. He pointed out that Moscow has repeatedly failed to uphold commitments, particularly regarding ceasefire agreements. “Playing games with the agreed naval ceasefire in the Black Sea, despite good faith participation from all sides, all while continuing to inflict devastating attacks on the Ukrainian people—his promises are hollow,” the UK prime minister stated. Putin’s approach to negotiations has raised concerns among Western allies, who continue to support Ukraine both militarily and diplomatically. Experts argue that without serious engagement from Moscow, achieving a lasting ceasefire remains unlikely. Global Reactions to Putin’s Peace Stance International bodies, including NATO and the European Union, have repeatedly urged Russia to engage in meaningful peace discussions. However, ongoing missile strikes and territorial aggression have fueled skepticism about Putin’s intentions. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak (2 Corinthians 4:13). Numbers 13-14 recounts the story of the twelve spies sent by Moses to scout the land of Canaan, the Promised Land. They spent forty days exploring the land and brought back evidence of its abundance, including a large cluster of grapes. However, while Caleb and Joshua encouraged the Israelites to trust God and take possession of the land, the other ten spies described the land as dangerous and inhabited by giants. The Israelites, overcome by fear and doubt, rebelled against Moses and Aaron, longing to return to Egypt. God’s anger burned against their unbelief, and as a result, that generation, except Caleb and Joshua, didn’t enter the Promised Land. Despite Caleb and Joshua’s attempts to reassure them of God’s power, the people refused to believe. Here’s what I want you to notice concerning what the Lord said about the report of these other 10 spies: “And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel…” (Numbers 13:32). It wasn’t Joshua or Moses who labelled their report as “evil”—it was the Lord Himself, because it contradicted His Word. What was the evil report? God had declared that the Israelites would conquer the giants and take possession of the land flowing with milk and honey. But the ten spies said, “Even if it’s true that the land flows with milk and honey, we can’t take it.” They disregarded God’s assurance of victory and accused Moses of leading them into trouble. In Numbers 13:32-33, they said, “…The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Learn from this. No evil report should come from you. Be like Joshua and Caleb. Our opening verse says we have the same spirit of faith; we believe and therefore speak in agreement with God’s Word. What has the Word said about your health or prosperity? What has God said about your life and future? Affirm the same things in agreement with Him. Speak faith-filled words only, regardless of what your senses perceive. Hold fast to your confessions of faith, knowing that God’s Word is true and always prevails. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the spirit of faith at work in me. I believe your Word, and I speak in agreement with it. I walk in health, prosperity and victory; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Amen.
