Tensions in the Middle East have escalated as Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, directed the nation’s armed forces to be placed on high military alert. This strategic move follows a recent threat by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned of severe consequences if nuclear discussions fail. According to a detailed report by Reuters, Iran has proactively issued diplomatic warnings to neighboring countries including Turkey, the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, and Kuwait. The message was clear: if any of these nations support a U.S. offensive—either by allowing use of their territory or airspace—such actions would be interpreted as hostile aggression. Despite rejecting direct talks with the U.S., Iranian officials have shown openness to indirect dialogue through the Sultanate of Oman, a neutral nation that has historically served as a mediator between the U.S. and Iran. Last month, Trump reportedly reached out to Khamenei with a proposal to resume negotiations regarding the nuclear deal, but no agreement has been finalized. In a separate declaration, Trump threatened to impose additional sanctions within two weeks if diplomatic progress stalls. He also stated that if Iran outright refuses the deal, the U.S. would consider “unprecedented bombing” to be a potential military response. This current standoff recalls prior instances of elevated tensions in U.S.-Iran relations, particularly those tied to nuclear capabilities and regional influence. For a broader understanding of U.S.-Iran historical dynamics, read this comprehensive Brookings Institution analysis. Makinde Describes Loss as Painful and Patriotic In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Print Media, Moses Alao, Governor Makinde expressed profound grief, referring to Dr. Olunloyo as one of the most cerebral and patriotic leaders to have emerged from Oyo. “On behalf of the people and Government of Oyo State, I extend our deepest sympathies to the Olunloyo family, Ibadanland, and the entire state,” Makinde stated. “This loss is especially painful as we anticipated celebrating his 90th birthday on April 14. Nevertheless, I’m comforted that our administration honored him during his lifetime by naming the Ibadan Airport Road and Leisure Park after him.” Makinde acknowledged the contributions of the late governor to state development, emphasizing his patriotism and intellectual brilliance. Ladoja Calls Olunloyo Incorruptible and Exceptional Former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, in a statement released through his media aide Adeola Oloko, described Dr. Olunloyo as a man of integrity and an outstanding academic. Ladoja recalled Olunloyo’s academic excellence from Government College Ibadan to his PhD studies in Scotland, noting that he was among the youngest Nigerians to attain that level of education at the time. “He was not just a mathematician and engineer, but also a committed public servant who served as a commissioner under the Majekodunmi and Adebayo administrations,” Ladoja said. “Olunloyo’s dedication to public service and his incorruptibility remain his greatest legacies.” Ladoja also highlighted his tenure as rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic, as well as his leadership in various scientific research institutions. The Government of India has announced it has no intention of enforcing retaliatory tariffs in response to the United States’ recent 26% tariff on Indian exports, a move introduced under former President Donald Trump’s trade policy. According to a report by Reuters, an Indian government official disclosed that New Delhi is instead prioritizing continued trade negotiations with Washington, aiming for a mutually beneficial trade agreement. “We are engaged in meaningful discussions, and we believe this positions us well compared to other nations affected by the same tariffs,” said the official, who requested anonymity. India is reportedly analyzing a clause within the US’s latest “reciprocal” tariff policy. This clause provides relief for trade partners that “undertake significant measures to address non-reciprocal trade frameworks.” India Confident in Its Negotiation Edge Sources suggest that India’s swift response and diplomatic engagements give it a favorable standing compared to Asian counterparts such as China, Vietnam, and Indonesia, who have faced the brunt of US tariff escalations. For instance, China has already responded with a 34% retaliatory tariff on American goods, intensifying trade tensions. However, India’s approach appears more strategic, aiming to strengthen its trade relationship with the US rather than escalate the situation. An internal government source emphasized that India’s early and proactive discussions could spare it from the harsher implications seen by other export-driven economies. Global Reactions Vary While India, Indonesia, and Taiwan may sidestep reciprocal tariffs through diplomacy, the European Union could consider a more assertive stance, possibly setting the stage for broader geopolitical trade shifts. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee (Exodus 20:12). The Word of God provides clear instructions about the relationship between children and their parents. The apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:1-3 (AMPC) highlights the importance of children obeying and honouring their parents: “CHILDREN, OBEY your parents in the Lord [as His representatives], for this is just and right. Honour (esteem and value as precious) your father and your mother–this is the first commandment with a promise– That all may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.” When you dishonour your parents, it affects your life negatively. Success may come, but it can be fleeting, with cycles of ups and downs, losses, and instability. It’s one of the reasons some people experience unexplainable instability, setbacks, and even premature death. So, do what the Word says; honour your parents or those who may be standing in that role over you. When you do, the result is clear: “It shall be well with you in life.” Honouring your parents isn’t just about your actions, but also about your attitude. The way you speak to them matters. You must treat them with utmost regard and respect. Furthermore, observe that God didn’t add any condition to you honouring your parents. He didn’t say, “Honour your father and mother if they treat you well”; no! Their status as your parents is enough qualification for them to be honoured. It makes no difference what issues or challenges they may have; they’re your parents, and you’re obligated to honour them. If your mother or father is unwell or living in poor conditions, do something about it; show care. Others may disregard them, but they’re your parents, not theirs. You might say, “My parents were very mean to me and didn’t give me the right love and care as a child; therefore, I don’t feel I should honour them.” Well, they’re still your parents, and you have a duty to respect and honour them regardless. You have to do what the Word says. No matter how much you speak in tongues or demonstrate spiritual fervour, it can’t replace this biblical principle. God’s Word is consistent, and honouring your parents is a divine instruction that brings blessings and ensures your journey in life is pleasant—upward and forward. Hallelujah! PRAYERDear Father, thank you for teaching me the importance of honouring my parents and those you’ve placed to watch over me in the Lord. I show them the respect and regard they deserve; thus, my path in life is one of success and victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. In a decisive immigration enforcement move, the United States government has announced the cancellation of all valid visas issued to South Sudanese passport holders. This drastic measure stems from South Sudan’s ongoing refusal to facilitate the return of its repatriated nationals, a stance that violates international repatriation norms. According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, this action takes immediate effect and includes both revoking existing visas and halting the issuance of new ones. The move is part of the broader immigration strategy led by the Trump administration, aimed at strengthening domestic immigration laws and ensuring cooperation from foreign governments. “Every sovereign nation has a responsibility to accept the timely return of its citizens once deported from another country,” said Rubio in an official statement. “Due to South Sudan’s failure to uphold this standard, we are compelled to take corrective action by restricting visa access.” Rubio also emphasized that the restrictions could be lifted if South Sudan demonstrates full compliance with repatriation protocols. This policy shift arrives amid growing concern among African nations and the global community over South Sudan’s fragile political climate, which many fear could spiral back into violent conflict. So far, the South Sudanese embassy in Washington, D.C. has remained silent regarding the visa revocation announcement. For context, this is not the first instance of the United States using visa sanctions as a diplomatic tool to pressure countries into compliance. In a previous case, the US imposed similar sanctions on countries that delayed or denied the return of their citizens. You can read more about US-Africa diplomatic tensions on our blog. Manchester United’s Under-18 squad delivered a jaw-dropping performance on Saturday as forward Victor Musa scored an extraordinary six goals to lead the Red Devils to a 13-1 win over Leeds United in the U18 Premier League showdown held at Carrington. Following their disappointing FA Youth Cup exit against Aston Villa earlier this week, United’s young talents bounced back in electrifying fashion. Adam Lawrence’s side wasted no time asserting dominance, with Musa breaking the deadlock early in the match—even after missing his initial penalty attempt. Just minutes later, Musa doubled United’s lead after linking up brilliantly with Jaydan Ngwashi. The relentless striker then completed a lightning-fast hat-trick by the 14th minute, capitalizing on a rapid counter-attack. The 18-year-old wasn’t done yet. By the 25th minute, Musa had already netted five goals, showcasing impeccable finishing skills and elite movement. Shortly after, teammate Jim Thwaites added his name to the scoresheet with a quickfire hat-trick in just 11 minutes, further compounding the misery for the visiting side. Musa rounded off his stunning display with his sixth goal of the match, registering his second hat-trick of the day, all within the first 45 minutes. By halftime, Manchester United led 9-0. The second half saw additional goals from James Bailey, Daniel Armer, and JJ Gabriel to take the tally to 13. Leeds United managed a late consolation through Kenneth Mensah, but the result was long settled. Manchester United U18s now shift focus to their upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest next Saturday. Renowned Nigerian on-air personality and actress Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo 1, has come forward with a deeply emotional story of sexual assault involving a fellow professional in the media industry. In a recent episode of the podcast “Say My Piece”, which she co-hosts, Lolo 1 bravely disclosed that she was raped by a male colleague—an experience that left a lasting emotional and psychological impact. “I’ve rarely talked about this, and even now, I’m not ready to go into full details,” she said during the episode. “When I told my daughter recently, she held my hand and said, ‘Mummy, you’ve been through so much.’ And it hit me how much I’ve kept inside.” The actress revealed that the assault happened years ago, but the trauma resurfaces whenever she sees the perpetrator, who remains active in the Nigerian broadcasting scene. “It happened once, and it was someone I worked with. I still see him regularly, and every time I do, I go into this state of panic,” she added. “But speaking out now? People might question why I waited six years—especially now that he’s gaining recognition on TV.” Lolo 1 emphasized the complex emotional stages survivors of sexual violence often go through—including denial and self-blame. She highlighted how society often fails to support victims, especially when the abuser holds a prominent position. This revelation by Lolo 1 is part of a broader movement encouraging women in media to speak out and hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of their social or professional status. Raising Awareness and Ending the Stigma Lolo’s courage in sharing her story aligns with the global fight against sexual violence in the media industry. Experts have long emphasized the need for safe reporting channels and strong institutional support to protect victims and bring offenders to justice. A similar case was reported by The Guardian in a detailed article about the #MeToo movement spreading across Africa, showing how survivors are challenging silence and fear. Her disclosure also sheds light on how difficult it is for survivors to come forward, especially in professional environments where abusers are protected by reputation and power. In the late hours of Saturday, a Russian airstrike on Mykolaiv, located in southern Ukraine, resulted in injuries to three women and triggered a series of fires across residential areas. The Ukrainian State Emergency Service confirmed that one woman required hospitalization, while the other two received outpatient treatment. According to Vitaly Kim, the regional governor, the attack not only injured civilians but also damaged several homes. Kim shared updates through a post on the official Telegram channel, emphasizing the impact of the assault which came just a day after a tragic strike on Kryvyi Rih that killed 19 people, including nine children. The emergency response team released dramatic photos and videos showing firefighters extinguishing flames engulfing a residential building during the night. As of this report, there has been no official response from the Russian government regarding the Mykolaiv airstrike. Both nations continue to deny deliberately targeting civilians, despite widespread devastation across numerous Ukrainian cities since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. According to LMSINT MEDIA, the war has resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians—the vast majority being Ukrainians. The conflict remains one of the most destructive in modern European history. Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump, who assumed office in January, reiterated his commitment to mediating a resolution to the ongoing crisis. He has previously stated he could end the war within 24 hours of engaging in peace talks. In the early hours of Sunday, Kyiv was rocked by a Russian missile assault, resulting in injuries to no fewer than three civilians, according to Vitali Klitschko, the Mayor of Kyiv and head of the city’s military administration. The Ukrainian Air Force issued a nationwide air alert around 02:00 GMT, warning of possible missile threats across multiple regions, including those adjacent to Poland. As a result, Polish military aircraft were deployed to ensure aerial safety, given the proximity of the attack to the NATO-member’s airspace. Klitschko confirmed via Telegram that fires had broken out in at least three city districts. Two injured individuals were hospitalized in Darnytskyi District, located on the eastern side of the Dnipro River, which bisects Kyiv. The full extent of the attack remains unclear as of the time of this report. Previous Incidents and Border Sensitivities While western Ukrainian regions bordering Poland reported no direct impact from this strike, the sensitivity remains high due to previous incidents. Notably, in 2022, a stray Ukrainian missile tragically killed two individuals in Przewodów, a Polish village near the border. Poland has since maintained heightened surveillance of its airspace. Read the full incident on BBC News (external link). Escalation in Southern Ukraine The missile barrage on Kyiv follows a string of violent escalations. Earlier, officials in Mykolaiv stated that three individuals sustained injuries during similar Russian attacks in the region. A more devastating incident occurred just a day prior in Kryvyi Rih, where at least 19 people, including nine children, were reportedly killed in another Russian offensive. Conflicting Claims from Both Nations As in prior reports, Russia has not issued any immediate response regarding the latest strikes. In a unanimous party decision, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has been selected as the official All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the upcoming Anambra governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025. The APGA primary election was conducted at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Saturday, with Soludo running unopposed. According to the returning officer, Uche Nwegbo, a total of 3,172 valid votes were cast, and the governor secured 3,168 yes votes, affirming his candidacy. “By the authority vested in me and following INEC’s guidelines, I hereby declare Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the duly elected candidate of our party,” stated Nwegbo. Accepting the nomination, Soludo expressed deep gratitude to party delegates and supporters. He reiterated APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics, saying: “Anambra and APGA are inseparable. This nomination is a vote of confidence, and I wholeheartedly accept it.” Soludo emphasized his administration’s achievements and noted that they had been accomplished without external loans. “We’ve done the impossible without borrowing a single Naira. This is just the beginning; Anambra hasn’t seen anything yet,” he declared, while acknowledging support from local businesses and grassroots contributors, including market women. In line with his continuity message, the governor announced Dr. Onyeka Ibezim as his running mate, retaining him from their 2021 joint ticket. Citing a popular lecture he once delivered titled “If It’s Not Broken, Why Mend It?”, Soludo said: “Dr. Ibezim remains the best choice. Our synergy is solid, and our mission is unfinished.” The 2025 campaign is expected to be robust, with Soludo aiming to sweep all 21 local governments and 326 wards in Anambra State. Read more political updates on LMSINT Media Supreme Court Decisions – Nigerian Judiciary Speaking during a media interaction with the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin City, Senator Imasuen described the verdict as a necessary correction to what he termed an era of personal control and mismanagement under Abure’s leadership. As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, Imasuen remarked that the former chairman handled party affairs like a personal enterprise, which eventually caused deep divisions within the Labour Party. “Honestly, I welcome the Supreme Court’s decision that removed Barrister Julius Abure. It was long overdue. He didn’t seem to genuinely care for the party’s growth and unity,” said Imasuen. He noted that Abure’s actions pulled the party into unnecessary legal battles, weakening its strength and credibility. “It was no longer about preserving the party. The way things were handled under Abure’s leadership tore the Labour Party apart. Now that the Supreme Court has intervened, we must ask ourselves – what next? Can the party recover from this damage?” The Senator expressed concern over the party’s current state, suggesting that many members have already left due to the chaos. “Even though this judgment is a positive development, we must ask whether it’s too late. Will this ruling bring back old members or inspire those who remained loyal? That remains uncertain,” he added. Labour Party’s Standing in the Senate As the sole Labour Party senator representing Edo State in the National Assembly, Imasuen also spoke on his legislative duties, revealing that his committee has received over 300 petitions since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly. Out of those, approximately 20 petitions have been resolved, while several others are nearing conclusion. He listed various categories of petitions his committee handles, including: “We handle a wide range of petitions – from environmental issues to civil service matters. The Senate is a place where every voice, regardless of status, is heard,” Imasuen stated. In a horrifying escalation of violence, more than 300 villagers were brutally murdered in Guiedougou, a community in western Burkina Faso, by suspected militants belonging to Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) — an al-Qaeda-affiliated extremist group operating in the Sahel region. The large-scale attack occurred in the evening of April 3, 2025, and has been labeled one of the deadliest terrorist atrocities in Burkina Faso’s recent history. This tragedy unfolded just a day after Burkinabe military forces, alongside Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP), completed Operation Tourbillon, which was aimed at reclaiming the volatile Sourou Valley. According to a report by Zagazola Makama, a well-known counter-terrorism analyst focusing on insurgencies in the Lake Chad Basin, JNIM militants launched a coordinated raid, surrounding the village and targeting civilians, homes, and local structures. The majority of victims were accused of collaborating with government troops—a narrative JNIM often uses to justify attacks on non-combatants. The terrorist group, which has been officially designated as such by the United Nations and several countries, released a statement taking responsibility for the massacre. The group alleged the villagers were complicit in what it termed “atrocities” committed by the military and the VDP against Peuhl women and children—an accusation without credible evidence. Despite the recent claims of territorial gains by the Burkinabe government, security experts argue that the scale and speed of the JNIM response exposes the vulnerability of so-called liberated zones. The silence from the Burkinabe authorities, who have not yet made any formal statement about the massacre, adds to the growing frustration of citizens already living in fear. This attack underlines the intensifying jihadist conflict plaguing northern and western Burkina Faso, regions that have become epicenters of extremist insurgency in West Africa. With thousands already displaced and basic governance structures in disarray, the humanitarian implications are staggering. For a broader analysis of terrorism trends in the Sahel region, refer to this detailed report by The International Crisis Group. The Nigeria Police Force has officially summoned Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, to appear before authorities over alleged disobedience of a government-imposed restriction on Durbar festivities during the recent Sallah celebrations. A confidential letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police Olajide Rufus Ibitoye on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, mandates that the former Emir appear at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. Authorities had earlier issued a security advisory suspending all Durbar processions due to prevailing safety concerns during the Sallah festivities. However, despite the warning, Emir Sanusi reportedly led a Durbar-style procession and made an appearance at the Kano State Government House, drawing large crowds. It was noted that while the Emir’s entourage was in vehicles rather than the customary horse ride, the gathering still violated the police directive. Related Arrest and Ongoing Investigation In connection with the alleged breach, the police are also investigating a violent incident involving members of the Emir’s procession. A 20-year-old resident identified as Usman Sagiru from Sharifai Quarters was arrested for allegedly participating in a fatal attack on vigilante personnel following the Eid prayers held on March 30, 2025. As part of the expanding investigation, the Kano State Police Command has further invited Alhaji Wada Isyaku, known traditionally as Shamakin Kano, for questioning regarding possible involvement in disregarding the official ban on public Durbar activities. This developing situation highlights the tensions surrounding the role of traditional institutions and law enforcement directives during public religious events. ?
