Catholic Priest Kidnapped in Kurmin Risga, Kaduna: Diocese Seeks Urgent Intervention

A wave of concern has swept across the Christian community in Kaduna State following the abduction of Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos, a Catholic priest, by armed bandits in Kurmin Risga, situated within the Kauru Local Government Area. The kidnapping took place in the early hours of Thursday at approximately 12:15 a.m., when the assailants stormed the residence of the priest at St. Gerald Quasi Parish and forcefully took him away. In an official statement released by Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, the diocese expressed deep sorrow over the incident and confirmed that efforts are ongoing to secure the priest’s release. “We appeal for continued prayers and peaceful conduct. All lawful and available resources will be utilized to ensure that Fr. Ibrahim Amos returns safely and in good health,” said Shanet. The Kaduna State Police Command has not yet made an official announcement or provided any updates regarding the current status of the case. The silence has further fueled anxiety among parishioners and the larger faith-based community, prompting calls for swift security intervention. This incident adds to the growing number of kidnappings of clergy and community leaders in northern Nigeria, an issue that continues to challenge national security agencies. Community Reactions and National Concern Religious and civil society organizations are calling on the Federal Government and Kaduna State authorities to take decisive action against rising insecurity. Many are also demanding comprehensive reforms to protect places of worship and religious leaders across volatile regions. Security analysts warn that unless proactive steps are taken, such repeated incidents could lead to widespread disillusionment in the state’s capacity to protect its citizens. Femi Kuti Debunks Claims That Tony Allen Co-Created Afrobeat with Fela Kuti

Renowned Nigerian musician Femi Kuti, son of the legendary Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has categorically denied the widely circulated notion that the late drummer Tony Allen co-founded the Afrobeat genre alongside his father. In a recently posted video on his official social media platform, Femi addressed what he described as a false narrative. He clarified that although Tony Allen was a talented drummer and worked closely with Fela as a lead percussionist and music director, he did not co-create Afrobeat. According to Femi, the rhythmic foundation and musical patterns attributed to Afrobeat were exclusively developed by Fela Kuti himself. He stated: “My father was a highly skilled multi-instrumentalist and composer. He studied music and understood every aspect of his instruments. Some people claim Fela once said, ‘Without Tony Allen, there would be no Afrobeat.’ That’s completely untrue and misleading.” Femi added that while Allen was instrumental in executing Fela’s vision, Fela taught him the drum patterns that have since become synonymous with the genre. The artist emphasized that Afrobeat’s signature beats and musical direction came solely from his father’s creativity and spiritual depth during the composition process. “Fela created the beats. He was in a spiritual trance whenever he composed music, and no one was allowed to interrupt. There are no records, interviews, or articles proving Fela credited Tony Allen with co-creating Afrobeat,” Femi insisted. He also challenged critics and commentators to provide documented evidence where Fela openly acknowledged Allen as a co-founder of Afrobeat. According to him, no such evidence exists. Tony Allen has long been hailed internationally as a key figure in Afrobeat’s development. His collaboration with Fela led to the birth of iconic tracks and a new wave of African rhythm. However, Femi’s assertion redefines the conversation, placing full creative credit on Fela Kuti alone. Rhapsody of Realities April 24th 2025, WHEN THE HOLY GHOST PRAYS THROUGH YOU

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 1:20). Praying in the Spirit or praying in the Holy Ghost is twofold: there’s praying with your spirit, which is speaking in tongues, and praying through the power of the Holy Spirit. In our opening scripture, we’re instructed to pray through the power of the Holy Spirit. But in 1 Corinthians 14:14, Paul explains, “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.” This refers to praying with your spirit, speaking in tongues, as a means of engaging with God on a deeper, spiritual level. Then in Romans 8:26, we see another dimension of praying in the Spirit: “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” This is not speaking in tongues. It is the Holy Ghost interceding for us with groanings, deep, heartfelt expressions that words cannot articulate. Have you experienced moments when words fail, and instead, your spirit is burdened with groanings and deep sighs? These are times when the Holy Ghost takes over, interceding in your behalf. When this happens, continue in prayer until you have a release in your spirit. This kind of prayer is so powerful. It allows the Holy Ghost to address situations beyond your understanding; it’s a divine strategy for living an ever-victorious life in Christ. Additionally, as you pray in tongues, the Bible says you can ask for the gift of interpretation. This doesn’t mean translating what you prayed but receiving insight into what you’re praying about. However, when the Holy Ghost prays through you in groanings, you may not always know the details unless He reveals them to you. The power and the effect when the Spirit prays through us like that are incontrovertible; we invoke the power and dominion of heaven on earth, manifesting divine realities. It’s one of the reasons I love and enjoy to pray. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the gift of the Spirit who helps me pray beyond my understanding. As I pray in tongues and through the power of the Holy Ghost, every limitation is removed, and I walk in continuous victory. Thank you for this divine strategy to live a life that is upward and forward only, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. FURTHER STUDY|| Ephesians 6:18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; || || 1 Corinthians 14:2For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth [him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. || || Romans 8:26-27 AMPCSo too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance. 27 And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God’s will. || DAILY AFFIRMATIONS: I am never alone, because the host of heaven is with me always! I am fully aware that if I give the word, the angels are under obligation to take action! Angels respond to God’s Word. They’re happy to work with and for me. When I call on the name of Jesus, all of nature responds to me, supernatural doors open for me, and strangers are obligated to favour me. I celebrate the grace of God which causes His glory to be revealed in all that I do and usher me into my next level of greatness. The totality of divinity is fully present in my spirit. I display the perfections of Christ in sound health. I walk in wisdom and discernment, always knowing the steps to take as I fulfil my destiny in Christ, equipped and empowered to bring hope, healing, and deliverance to those around me. I am an oasis of love and a haven of peace, joy, hope and faith in a troubled world. I don’t envy Godless men or desire to be in their company. I walk as a child of light, for I am light in the Lord. My delight is in pleasing the Lord Jesus, and I seek to honour Him always. I’m guided by the Spirit of God who lives in me and guides me in the path of righteousness, to produce fruits and works of righteousness. My faith is strong and never wavers because it’s founded on God’s Word. I reign as a king in this life, changing situations and circumstances in my favour. I make decrees and they’re established, for the Word of God on my lips is God talking! I’ll never be discouraged or subject to the crippling principles of this world, because I reign and rule by the Word. Christ has brought perfection and excellence into my life. I am prospering exceedingly, manifesting the righteousness and dominion of Christ everywhere. I’m continually filled with the Spirit of God. I have the life and nature of God in me; therefore, I’m an overcomer and more than a conqueror. I live in Christ, where divinity reigns. I reign in prosperity with peace, health, and an abundance of wealth. I enjoy the supernatural life that God has given me, in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen. Speak in tongues. Ogun State Launches Innovative HIV/AIDS Strategy to Achieve Zero New Infections by 2027

The Ogun State Government has launched a forward-thinking HIV/AIDS strategy designed to eliminate new infections and sustain care for individuals living with the virus. The new approach aligns with both state and national health goals, targeting zero transmission and improved access to lifelong treatment for people affected by the epidemic. During a three-day stakeholder engagement forum held in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker—represented by Dr. Tayo Lawal, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health—announced the rollout of the Ogun State HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan 2025–2027. Dr. Coker highlighted a significant shift in funding patterns, noting a decline in donor support compared to the past, particularly during the World Bank’s peak involvement. “We can all see the declining financial input into the HIV response in Nigeria. It is time to galvanize a multi-sectoral commitment,” she stated. The new HIV/AIDS plan emphasizes inclusive collaboration across government agencies, civil society, and private sector partners to strengthen HIV interventions and improve treatment outcomes. Dr. Coker stressed that the government alone cannot combat HIV/AIDS effectively without community-based support and stakeholder synergy. Dr. Kehinde Fatungase, Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OGSACA), also spoke at the event. He underscored the importance of creating a technically sound work plan tailored to the state’s unique needs, especially with limited external resources. “Despite a National Strategic Plan, Ogun requires a localized and resource-efficient approach to meet its HIV goals,” Dr. Fatungase said. Stakeholders in attendance included representatives from the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), APIN Public Health Initiative, and the Civil Society Network on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. All pledged their support in co-developing and implementing the plan, aiming for measurable results over the next two years. As Ogun State takes this bold step, it reinforces the critical role of local governance and multi-sector participation in addressing public health challenges like HIV/AIDS. Nigerian Army Intensifies Security Operations in Oshodi and Mushin, Lagos State

In a decisive move to reinforce public safety, the Nigerian Army has launched a series of tactical raids targeting notorious criminal enclaves in Oshodi and Mushin, Lagos State. These operations, spearheaded by Brigadier General Matthew Oyekola, were executed in close coordination with local vigilantes and the Man-O-War Nigeria, reflecting a collaborative approach to addressing escalating security concerns in densely populated neighborhoods. Strategic Military Response to Urban Crime These recent military interventions are part of a broader initiative to clamp down on criminal networks operating within Lagos. The raids are a follow-up to Brig Gen Oyekola’s commitment made during a strategic dialogue with lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly in September 2024, where he assured the public of the Army’s dedication to combating threats against peaceful residents. Boosting Inter-Agency Security Capabilities As part of efforts to improve synergy among security forces, the 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army recently donated a fully refurbished operational vehicle to the Lagos State Command of Man-O-War Nigeria. The vehicle, initially an abandoned asset from Operation MESA (OP MESA), has now been restored to support field operations. During the presentation, Brigadier General Oyekola noted that the asset would significantly strengthen intelligence gathering and information sharing, crucial for proactive security responses in volatile areas. In a surprising political move, Mr. Oluwagbenga Abiola, the Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government Area in Lagos State, has officially withdrawn from the 2025 chairmanship election set for July 12. Abiola revealed his decision on Wednesday, announcing that he would no longer pursue the position and would instead back Abdulganiyu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa. Describing himself as a committed loyalist and mentee of the Speaker, Abiola emphasized that his decision was made independently and was based on loyalty and long-standing mentorship, not external pressure. “My loyalty to Speaker Obasa is unwavering. He laid the foundation for my political rise. From appointing me as Special Assistant on Media in 2015 to supporting my journey to becoming Vice Chairman in 2021, he has been instrumental,” Abiola said. He recounted his political trajectory: According to Abiola, his withdrawal is aimed at promoting unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and boosting Abdulganiyu’s candidacy for the chairmanship role. “Every Vice Chairman naturally aims for the top seat. I had aspirations. But when the party speaks, we must listen. I stand by the collective decision of our stakeholders and leadership,” he affirmed. The move comes amid rising support for Abdulganiyu Obasa, with political leaders in Agege urging the Speaker to give his son a chance at leadership due to the family’s lasting impact on the area’s political development and infrastructure. Abiola also reaffirmed his trust in the APC’s leadership and said he believes in future opportunities that may come his way, trusting his mentor’s ability to position him for greater responsibilities. “I’m still energetic and committed to serving. Our goal is party victory, and my Obasa Youth Alliance is solidly behind this decision,” he added. Kevin De Bruyne Linked with Surprise Transfer to Aston Villa Amid Manchester City Exit

In a development that could reshape the Premier League landscape, Manchester City’s iconic midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, is reportedly being eyed by Aston Villa as he approaches the end of his contract this summer. According to a report by Sky Sports (source), the Midlands-based club has shown a strong interest in acquiring the services of the 33-year-old Belgian, who is set to become a free agent at the conclusion of the current season. Villa have reportedly begun internal deliberations regarding the potential signing of De Bruyne, a player whose influence on the pitch has defined Manchester City’s dominance over the past decade. While Aston Villa are keen to bring in the experienced midfielder, they are not alone in their pursuit. Several Major League Soccer (MLS) teams, including Inter Miami, Chicago Fire, D.C. United, and New York City FC (NYCFC), have also expressed interest in signing the playmaker, making this summer’s transfer race one to watch closely. De Bruyne has publicly confirmed that he will be leaving Manchester City after nearly a decade of remarkable success, during which he lifted 16 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and a coveted UEFA Champions League crown. His departure marks the end of an era for the reigning champions. Interestingly, former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has suggested that De Bruyne consider a move to City’s arch-rivals Manchester United, echoing sentiments that would shock fans across both sides of the city. If De Bruyne makes the move to Aston Villa, it would mirror a growing trend of star players opting for new challenges within the Premier League, similar to loan transfers like Marcus Rashford’s stint away from United. Premier League Drama: Arteta Laments Arsenal’s Lackluster Performance in 2-2 Draw Against Crystal Palace

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta expressed visible frustration after his team failed to secure a win in a tense 2-2 Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening. The match began on a promising note for the North London side, with defender Jakub Kiwior breaking the deadlock through a well-aimed header, capitalizing on a free-kick opportunity. However, the Gunners’ early lead was short-lived. Eberechi Eze showcased his class with a spectacular long-range goal that pulled Palace level. Before halftime, Leandro Trossard restored Arsenal’s advantage, sending the Emirates crowd into celebration. The second half took a turn when Jean-Philippe Mateta capitalized on a defensive lapse, slotting home the equalizer and denying Arsenal all three points. In his post-match reaction to BBC Sport, Arteta admitted disappointment in his side’s performance: “We failed to maintain our standards. Credit to Crystal Palace, but we were inconsistent throughout. Our ball retention was poor, and we reacted slowly in many moments. It’s frustrating.” When questioned about whether the upcoming Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) had distracted his squad, Arteta clarified: “We’ve discussed the importance of focus. While the PSG game is crucial, today’s result shows we didn’t do enough to earn a win. The break is welcome—we need recovery and players returning to full fitness.” This draw marks another critical point dropped in Arsenal’s Premier League campaign, increasing pressure ahead of European competition.
