Trailblazing Nigerian Journalist, Dr. Doyin Abiola, Passes Away at 82

Dr. Doyin Abiola, a distinguished icon in Nigerian journalism and the former Managing Director of National Concord Newspaper, has died at the age of 82. According to credible family sources, the veteran journalist passed away peacefully at precisely 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday following a short illness. Dr. Abiola, who was married to the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, stands out in history as the first Nigerian woman to attain the dual roles of editor and later managing director/editor-in-chief of a major national daily. Her pioneering efforts reshaped the editorial terrain of Nigeria’s print media industry and opened new doors for women in journalism. A Life of Firsts and Fearless Journalism Born in 1943, Doyin Abiola studied English and Drama at the University of Ibadan, graduating in 1969. Her journey into journalism commenced at the Daily Sketch, where her daring and widely-read column, Tiro, offered unfiltered perspectives on public issues — particularly those affecting Nigerian women. Seeking to deepen her knowledge and skills, she traveled to the United States in 1970 for postgraduate studies. She earned a Master’s degree in Journalism and returned home shortly after, where she joined Daily Times as a Features Writer. Demonstrating excellence in her craft, she eventually rose to become Group Features Editor. In 1979, she achieved another academic milestone by earning a Ph.D. in Communications and Political Science from the prestigious New York University (NYU). Leadership at National Concord and Beyond Her career peaked in 1980 when she was appointed the pioneering editor of the newly established National Concord, a newspaper founded by business tycoon and politician Chief MKO Abiola. Demonstrating exceptional leadership and editorial vision, she became the Managing Director of the media outfit by 1986. In 1981, Dr. Doyin Abiola and Chief MKO Abiola formalized their union in marriage. MKO Abiola is widely recognized as the presumed winner of Nigeria’s annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election. Throughout his political activism and subsequent detention, Dr. Abiola exemplified strength, dignity, and unwavering support, earning admiration from both local and international observers. Contributions to Journalism Education and Media Development Beyond newsroom operations, Dr. Abiola made substantial contributions to journalism education and media policy development in Nigeria. She chaired the Nigerian Media Merit Award (NMMA) nomination panel and served on the advisory council of Ogun State University’s Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. Her life’s work garnered numerous prestigious accolades, including the Eisenhower Fellowship in 1986. She was also a recipient of the Diamond Award for Media Excellence (DAME) Lifetime Achievement Award, becoming only the second woman ever to receive that honor — the first being Mrs. Omobola Onajide. A Lasting Legacy of Excellence and Courage Dr. Doyin Abiola’s enduring legacy is rooted in her fearless journalism, her trailblazing role in media leadership, and her unflinching dedication to truth, democracy, and public service. She has left behind an inspirational path that many upcoming media professionals, especially women, will follow for generations to come. The family is expected to release details of her funeral arrangements in the coming days.

Oyo State Prioritizes Competence Over Politics and Origin in Appointments – Governor Makinde Reaffirms

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has once again underscored his administration’s unwavering focus on merit-based appointments, stressing that only individuals with proven capacity and integrity will be selected for public service, irrespective of political affiliations, ethnicity, or place of origin. The governor made this clear on Tuesday during the official inauguration of the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission, held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office located at the State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan. Makinde highlighted that his administration is firmly committed to identifying and appointing individuals who possess the professional qualifications and competence to drive growth and transformation in Oyo State. According to him, considerations such as political favoritism or ethnic background do not influence selection into key positions within his government. “Whenever we identify a talent that has the potential to add genuine value to the development of Oyo State, regardless of where they come from or what political party they belong to, we will not hesitate to bring such a person on board,” Governor Makinde stated. He called on the newly appointed members of the Judicial Service Commission to remain steadfast in applying their skills and experience toward enhancing the delivery of justice and upholding the rule of law in the state. The governor noted that the efficiency and credibility of the judicial arm of government play a vital role in ensuring good governance, peace, and equity in society. Therefore, the newly inaugurated commission must work diligently to maintain the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary. Leading the newly sworn-in commission is the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, who will serve as the Chairperson. Supporting her as the Secretary is Mrs. M.O. Abdulganiyu. Other distinguished members of the Oyo State Judicial Service Commission include: The governor’s approach to appointments, which centers on skill, value, and state-building commitment, aligns with modern governance best practices and sends a strong message about transparency, accountability, and equity in public service. This commitment comes at a time when many Nigerians are advocating for depoliticized public appointments and credible leadership across all levels of government. Governor Makinde’s stance is widely seen as a forward-thinking model that other state leaders could emulate.

Iyabo Ojo Files Petition Against Nigerian Police Over VeryDarkMan’s Alleged Interrogation Room Access

Nigerian film star and activist, Iyabo Ojo, has formally petitioned the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), currently headed by Nuhu Ribadu, regarding an alleged case of police misconduct involving the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCC) and controversial online figure, VeryDarkMan. According to the petition filed by her legal team, The Maverick Forte Legal, and dated July 29, 2025, Ojo alleged a significant breach of professional conduct by officers during her interrogation at the Force Headquarters located in Abuja. The widely shared legal document reveals that during her questioning session with the NPF-NCC, VeryDarkMan, a civilian currently facing charges in a separate matter where Ojo is a witness, was improperly allowed into the interrogation room. This access, she claims, compromised the integrity and confidentiality of her session. Improper Access Allegedly Authorized by Top Officer The petition further points to Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Henry Uche, as the official who reportedly authorized VeryDarkMan’s entry into the confidential interrogation space. Ojo claims that the access was a result of an “unprofessional and personal relationship” between the officer and the online influencer. The actress expressed serious concerns about how sensitive details from her session were leaked online shortly after the event, allegedly by VeryDarkMan himself, further deepening her mistrust in the ongoing process. Call for Relocation of Investigation to Lagos In response to these alleged breaches, Iyabo Ojo has vowed not to attend any further sessions at the NPF-NCC headquarters in Abuja. She has also requested that the case be relocated to Lagos for an independent and impartial investigation. The actress emphasized the need for a probe that is free from manipulation, bias, or influence, urging authorities to put an end to what she describes as a “tainted and partial inquiry.” This latest controversy stems from an earlier police invitation extended to Ojo following her public remarks accusing popular singer Naira Marley of being involved in the death of fellow artist Mohbad. Ongoing Advocacy for Transparency and Justice Ojo has long been known for her boldness in addressing sensitive issues within the Nigerian entertainment industry. This recent development marks another turning point in her advocacy for justice, especially in cases involving artists and influencers. LMSINT MEDIA continues to monitor the unfolding situation and will provide updates as more details become available.

In the ongoing season of Big Brother Naija Season 10 (BBNaija S10), the emotional dynamics in Biggie’s house have taken a new turn as housemate Rooboy openly encouraged fellow contestant Mide to take the initiative and make a bold romantic move toward her crush, Bright Morgan. The conversation unfolded during a heart-to-heart moment between the two housemates, where Mide vulnerably expressed her growing frustration with Bright Morgan. Despite their regular conversations, Mide noted that Bright’s actions haven’t gone beyond surface-level chats. “All Bright Morgan does is just talk, nothing actually happens,” Mide lamented in a visibly emotional tone. In response, Rooboy offered straightforward and bold advice, urging Mide to stop waiting passively for something to happen. He emphasized the importance of making one’s feelings known rather than overanalyzing the situation. Rooboy stressed that in a space as emotionally intense as the BBNaija house, it’s easy for people to hide their feelings out of fear of being judged or making mistakes. “Feelings are flying all over the place and nobody wants to be honest. But if you truly like him, then kiss him. Go ahead and shoot your shot,” Rooboy advised without hesitation. He went further to applaud fellow housemate Isabella for being mature and emotionally expressive, stating that her openness is something the others could learn from. “That’s why I have respect for Isabella. She’s emotionally mature and she doesn’t hide behind pretenses,” Rooboy noted. He concluded his candid advice by highlighting how people often hold back to avoid embarrassment, even though public attention is always temporary. “Everyone is too careful, scared of messing up or looking stupid. But we’re all humans. People will talk for a while and move on with their lives eventually.” Viewers React to Rooboy’s Encouragement The conversation between Rooboy and Mide triggered diverse reactions from BBNaija fans online, with many viewers expressing support for Mide and Rooboy’s perspective: As BBNaija Season 10 continues to unravel, the emotional tension and romantic intrigues among housemates are certainly keeping fans glued to their screens.

Estevao Explains Why He Chose Chelsea Over Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Arsenal

New Chelsea signing Estevao Willian has revealed the key reasons behind his decision to join the Premier League giants, turning down offers from European heavyweights such as Barcelona, Arsenal, and Real Madrid in the process. The 18-year-old Brazilian talent, who was signed from Palmeiras, was officially unveiled as a Chelsea player on Tuesday evening. His move to Stamford Bridge marks a significant step in the Blues’ continued investment in promising young stars from South America. Despite receiving interest from multiple elite clubs across Europe, Estevao opted to commit his future to Chelsea, citing the club’s comprehensive project and long-term development plan as the most convincing factor. The decision, he emphasized, was influenced not just by him, but also with strong backing from his family. “It was the plans, the structure, and the club itself – all of it,” Estevao stated in an interview published on Chelsea’s official website. “But mainly, the plans and project the club has is what interested me and my family, and I believe it was the best decision we could have made.” Estevao also shared his aspirations now that he’s part of the Chelsea squad. His long-term goals include lifting both domestic and continental trophies with the West London club. “[My long-term goals at Chelsea are] I want to win all the titles possible: the Premier League and the Champions League as well,” he added. Chelsea continues to build a squad for the future, and Estevao’s arrival reinforces their strategy of acquiring world-class potential early. His move could become a pivotal part of Chelsea’s next generation of title contenders.

UCL Qualifier: Russell Martin Praises Cyriel Dessers After Dominant Rangers Win Over Viktoria Plzen

LaLiga Registration Troubles: Six Barcelona Players Await Approval Ahead of New Season

A fresh hurdle has emerged for FC Barcelona as six key players are reportedly at risk of not being registered for the upcoming LaLiga season, according to information published by SPORT, a reliable Spanish sports outlet. Among the six players is Marcus Rashford, who recently joined the Catalan giants during the summer transfer window on a season-long loan from Manchester United. The English forward is eagerly hoping to feature in Spain’s top-flight competition but may face a delay due to the club’s financial bottlenecks. Barcelona’s persistent financial instability continues to pose a significant challenge in registering new signings with LaLiga. This issue has become a recurring dilemma for the reigning champions, impacting their flexibility during transfer windows. Last season, the Blaugrana encountered similar administrative roadblocks with both Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. While the duo initially secured temporary licenses, those approvals were later revoked by LaLiga during the January transfer window, leaving both players sidelined from official league matches. Despite these ongoing struggles, club president Joan Laporta remains optimistic about resolving the matter in time. In a recent interview with ESPN, Laporta offered assurances that the club is working diligently behind the scenes to ensure all affected players can be officially registered before the league resumes. “It’s progressing well,” Laporta told ESPN.“We’re doing our job and we’re confident that we’ll be able to register everyone.” With the LaLiga kick-off date fast approaching, fans and analysts alike will be keeping a close watch on Barcelona’s next steps. The club’s ability to overcome these registration obstacles will not only determine player availability but may also influence their early performance in the new season.

Rhapsody of Realities August 6th 2025, FOCUS ON THOSE WHO EMBRACE YOUR MESSAGE

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy (Romans 11:11). In winning souls, you’ll surely encounter some people who’d be hostile and reject your message or invitation for them to come to church. Whenever that happens, don’t be discouraged. If they reject your message and your invitation, focus on reaching other people. Shift your focus to those who embrace your message. Consider how God dealt with the world. Jesus first took the message to the Jews because they were His people. He came from among them and brought them the message of the Kingdom, but they rejected Him. John 1:11 (NIV) says, “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.” So, what did He do? He took the message to the Gentiles and to the whole world, and to this day, many are still receiving it. Praise God! The same happened with the apostle Paul. He had previously persecuted those who believed in Jesus Christ, standing against the Gospel. When he gave his heart to the Lord, many of his fellow Jews wouldn’t listen to him. He was once their companion but when he became a Christian, they rejected him. Straightaway, Paul turned his attention to the Gentiles who happened to be the ones the Lord had originally sent him to (read Acts 26:16-18). Also, Acts 13 tells us about Paul and Barnabas’s missionary efforts in Antioch in Pisidia. They were initially welcomed in the synagogue, but later on, they faced strong opposition from jealous Jewish leaders. In response to their rejection, they boldly said, “…It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles” (Acts 13:46). You must never allow those who reject your message to determine the condition of your spirit or dampen your enthusiasm. Pray for them, intercede for them, but don’t let their rejection dissipate your passion to keep reaching others with the Gospel. As you succeed in winning others, one day, they’ll be provoked and inspired to believe, just as the Bible says the Jews would be provoked by the salvation of the Gentiles and as a nation, they’ll eventually believe in Jesus Christ. Stay focused; keep reaching out, and trust in the power of the Gospel. CONFESSIONI fix my gaze on God’s calling and continue to reach out with the Gospel, knowing that it’s the power of God unto salvation to them that believe. By His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, I’m leading many to righteousness, and their hearts are turned to Christ. I’m indeed a light to the world. Hallelujah! Rhapsody of Realities August 5th 2025, SENT TO CHANGE LIVES

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19). The words of Jesus in this verse are quite profound. He commands us to “teach all nations,” which means to make students of the nations, to disciple them, to instruct and train them in the ways of the Kingdom. This is a divine mandate. You’re a leader, assigned to reveal the righteousness of God and show the world how to live. You’re God’s champion, sent to change lives. Hallelujah! When you received the Holy Spirit, He made you a champion. Therefore, your life is meant to be impactful and full of divine exploits. You’re a hero of the Gospel, a living witness of God’s greatness. This is your moment for protagonism. Each day, for you, should be filled with testimonies that demonstrate the power of God that’s at work in you. That’s the life of a soul winner—a thrilling adventure of divine exploits that keeps heaven’s angels captivated. The Bible declares in 1 Corinthians 4:9, “…For we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.” Think about that; you’re a marvel to the angels. 1 Peter 1:12 says they (the angels) are delighted and desire to look into these things. They’re watching you, observing your faith-filled actions, amazed at the demonstration of God’s power in your life. They marvel at the authority you exercise in Christ and the impact you make in your world. When you step out in faith, when you declare God’s Word, when you heal the sick, cast out devils, and, most importantly, when you lead someone to Christ, the angels are excited. Knowing this therefore, be purpose-driven. You’re on a divine stage, and the audience includes both men and angels. Live each day fulfilling God’s call on your life. PRAYERDear Father, I embrace my divine calling to live a life full of exploits and supernatural manifestations. Today is filled with testimonies that excite heaven. Magodo Residents Petition Governor Sanwo-Olu Over Construction Threat on Environmentally Sensitive Gorge

Residents of Magodo Phase II Estate in Lagos State have filed an official petition to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, calling for immediate action to stop what they describe as unauthorized construction on a designated natural gorge within the estate. The petition, signed by Niyi Odusi, the Chairman of the Magodo Residents Association (MRA), expresses deep concern about the ongoing structural developments in the Green Valley Zone, also commonly referred to as “Oko Filling.” The community believes that these developments directly violate the Lagos State urban master plan, which classifies the area as environmentally critical. Environmental Importance of the Gorge The disputed land is not just empty terrain; residents emphasize that the gorge plays an essential ecological role. It is a natural water catchment area supported by rich vegetation and sandy formations, which help in stabilizing the estate’s surrounding elevated landscape. This ecosystem functions as a natural buffer against flooding, soil erosion, and landslides. Construction on this environmentally sensitive site, according to the MRA, poses an immediate and long-term risk to homes and infrastructure already built in compliance with city planning laws. “Developing this landlocked gorge may result in catastrophic outcomes like flooding, structural damage, and possibly deadly mudslides,” the residents said. Allegations Against Government Officials The residents further claim that despite the ecological concerns and legal zoning restrictions, some developers have moved forward with the backing of influential officials in the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. They alleged that this unauthorized development is progressing under the radar, even though earlier attempts to build on this location were rightfully halted due to its environmental designation. “There is a growing perception that influential insiders are enabling developers to distort our natural landscape at the expense of lawful property owners and existing infrastructure,” the MRA wrote. Ignored Warnings and Growing Tensions Residents say they had submitted a formal complaint as far back as April 24, 2025, outlining the severe environmental and safety risks involved in the development. Despite this, authorities have allegedly failed to take any effective action. In what residents describe as an intimidation tactic, the developer recently led armed security personnel and government officials to demolish an alleged “illegal structure” on the disputed site. The MRA argues that this move is a cover-up to commence new construction disguised as a corrective operation. “This demolition is clearly a tactic to suppress resident protests and mute legitimate questions concerning this dangerous activity,” the association noted. They also reported that the demolition led to property damage and disruptions in the neighbourhood, further deepening anxiety among community members. Residents’ Demands to the State Government In their detailed petition to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Magodo Phase II residents made the following urgent appeals:
