The Lagos State Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspects linked to the abduction of Folashade Odumosu, wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu. Acting on the directive of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, the Lagos State CP Special Squad made the arrests in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2025.
Suspects Arrested and Recovered Items
The suspects, identified as Agbojule Smart (27) and Keleke Michael (30), were intercepted while attempting to leave Lagos State. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping and revealed they were part of a four-member gang, two of whom had previously been neutralized by law enforcement.
Recovered items include:
- ₦2,250,000 – part of the ransom payment.
- Two locally fabricated rifles.
- Eleven live cartridges.
Police Statement and Commendation
In a statement released by the Force Headquarters, the IGP commended the operatives for their swift action and bravery in apprehending the suspects. He urged officers to sustain their high level of professionalism in combating crime.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to safeguarding public safety and ensuring the security of Nigerian citizens,” the statement read.
The IGP reiterated the force’s dedication to minimizing crime and fostering peace across the country.
Earlier Developments
Earlier reports indicated that two members of the gang were killed during a gun battle with police operatives while attempting to rescue Mrs. Odumosu.
The successful arrest and recovery of weapons and ransom funds demonstrate the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining law and order and restoring public confidence in security agencies.
