Suspect Arrested as Others Remain at Large for Attack on Kano Emir Sanusi’s Escort and Vigilante Members

Tragic Incident During Emir Sanusi’s Eid Procession

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with a violent attack on vigilante members escorting Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II after Eid prayers. The unfortunate incident, which took place on Sunday, March 30, 2025, led to the death of a vigilante member and injuries to another.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police revealed that they had apprehended Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters. Preliminary investigations indicate that Sagiru and his accomplices, who are still at large, were involved in the attack that resulted in the stabbing of Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters. Unfortunately, Rabiu succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, another victim, Aminu Suleman, from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano.

Authorities Take Decisive Action

As part of the ongoing probe, the police have invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning. Authorities have reassured the public that all those involved will be brought to justice.

The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its ban on all Durbar activities, emphasizing that any individual caught violating the directive or engaging in unlawful gatherings will face legal consequences.

Strong Stance Against Thuggery and Crime

The police have condemned all forms of thuggery (Daba) and vowed to take strict measures against individuals attempting to disrupt public order.

“We appeal to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security,” the police statement read.

Public Cooperation and Security Measures

Residents of Kano have been urged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security authorities to prevent further violence. The police command has assured the public that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects and ensure justice is served.
