Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Spyro has candidly shared how his early music career took an unexpected downturn after working with Davido and Mayorkun. During a recent interview with HipTV, the singer revealed that he had high hopes when collaborating on the 2018 remix of his track Funke, featuring two of Afrobeats’ biggest names.
“I thought my life was about to change,” Spyro recalled. “The song came out big, then all of a sudden, everything just went downhill.”
Spyro expressed that although the remix initially gained significant traction, his expectations quickly fell apart. He emotionally recounted how communication broke down with both Davido and Mayorkun after the collaboration, leaving him feeling isolated and disheartened.
“I’d sit on my staircase crying. I had responsibilities, including caring for my parents. Everything just started going wrong,” he said.
Despite the setbacks, Spyro remained determined. He eventually rose back to prominence in 2022 with the viral success of Who Is Your Guy, a hit single that redefined his journey in the music industry. Since then, he has worked with other notable artists such as Tiwa Savage and Simi, showing that resilience pays off.
This heartfelt revelation offers fans a glimpse into the emotional rollercoaster many artists face behind the scenes, even after seemingly successful collaborations.
