Speaker Abbas Condemns Zamfara Bomb Explosion That Claimed Seven Lives

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, has strongly denounced the deadly bomb explosion that occurred in Zamfara State and resulted in the death of seven innocent citizens.

The tragic incident took place on Saturday along the Magami–Dansadau highway in Maru Local Government Area. Reports indicate that suspected terrorists planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the busy route. The explosive detonated when a commercial passenger bus unknowingly drove over it, instantly killing seven occupants of the vehicle.

Reacting to the development, the Speaker described the attack as both cowardly and deeply regrettable. His condemnation was made public through a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi. According to the Speaker, the act represents another painful reminder of the persistent security challenges confronting parts of the country.

Dr. Abbas expressed concern over the timing of the attack, noting that it occurred shortly after the Nigerian government, in collaboration with the United States, launched a coordinated security operation targeting terrorist hideouts in parts of the North-West region. The joint operation, which involved air strikes on known terrorist locations, was aimed at weakening criminal networks and restoring stability to affected areas.

The Speaker emphasized that the Federal Government has continued to roll out new and improved security strategies to curb terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent crime. He reiterated that acts of terror and criminality directed against the state and its citizens would not go unchallenged, stressing that national efforts to combat insecurity remain firm.

He further stated that Nigerians have collectively resolved to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu in its ongoing mission to safeguard lives and property across the country. According to him, public cooperation and institutional backing are critical to overcoming the threats posed by armed groups.

Dr. Abbas also reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to play its constitutional role by providing the necessary legislative framework and budgetary backing required to address the nation’s security concerns. He assured citizens that lawmakers remain ready to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the capacity of security agencies.

In addition, the Speaker offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the explosion. He extended his sincere condolences to the bereaved families, as well as to the people and government of Zamfara State, acknowledging the pain and hardship caused by the incident.

Zamfara State remains one of the states most affected by insecurity in the North-West zone. For several years, the region has experienced sustained violence linked to banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping. Armed groups operating from forested territories such as the Dansadau, Tsafe, and Anka areas have frequently launched attacks on rural communities, ambushed travelers, and confronted security personnel.

Despite sustained military offensives and the formation of joint security task forces, attacks on highways, villages, and farmlands have persisted. These incidents have led to loss of lives, mass displacement of residents, and significant disruption to farming and other economic activities. The increasing deployment of IEDs along major transport routes has emerged as a serious concern, introducing new dangers for commuters and security operatives working to restore peace in the region.
