Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized the urgent need for deeper cooperation among leaders, institutions, and security stakeholders across the South-South geopolitical zone to reinforce stability, safety, and peaceful coexistence within the region.

He made this appeal on Thursday while speaking at the South-South Zonal Public Hearing on National Security, an event hosted in Port Harcourt by the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on National Security.

Governor Fubara stressed that lasting peace across the Niger Delta can only be achieved when all involved sectors—traditional rulers, security agencies, community organizations, and government representatives—work together with a unified strategy aimed at tackling emerging threats.

According to him, regional security challenges have become more dynamic, and the only way to protect citizens is through sustained dialogue, a proactive intelligence-sharing framework, and well-coordinated joint operations among states within the South-South axis.

He added that collaboration should extend beyond government circles to include private organizations, civil society groups, and community leaders who play critical roles in early-warning systems and conflict prevention. Governor Fubara noted that shared responsibility remains the best path toward safeguarding economic activities, oil installations, and livelihood opportunities that sustain millions of people across the region.

The governor also encouraged the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee to consider practical suggestions presented during the hearing, stressing that the outcomes must reflect the realities faced by residents, businesses, and security agencies operating across the Niger Delta. He maintained that strong partnerships, consistent communication, and inclusive engagement strategies will help foster trust, reduce criminal activities, and create an environment where development initiatives can flourish.

He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that Rivers State continues to play its leading role in promoting stability, cooperation, and sustainable peace across the entire South-South zone.
