South Korea Prepares For Challenging Trade Negotiations With The United States In Washingto

South Korea’s acting president, Han Duck-soo, expressed concerns over the complexity of upcoming trade negotiations between South Korea and the United States, indicating that this week’s diplomatic discussions in Washington will be far from straightforward.

Speaking during a high-level economic meeting in Seoul, Han highlighted the importance of these negotiations, stating they could mark the beginning of strategic economic cooperation between the two nations.

The talks, scheduled for April 24 at 8:00 a.m. (0000 GMT), will involve South Korea’s Ministers of Finance and Industry, alongside U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

Han emphasized that the South Korean delegation would engage the United States with a calm and practical approach. The goal, he said, is to reach a mutually beneficial agreement while strictly aligning with South Korea’s national interests.

“This consultation process may be complex. We understand the mixture of hopes and concerns as these discussions with the U.S. commence,” Han remarked.

The meeting reflects South Korea’s strategic aim to maintain a balanced economic relationship with its major trade partners amid global uncertainties.
