The Sokoto State Police Command has intensified its fight against illegal arms trafficking and terrorism sponsorship with the arrest of multiple suspects.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmed Rufai, detectives from the State Intelligence Department apprehended Bello Ibrahim, famously called ‘Bello Currency’, alongside four others—Alhaji Muhammad Danlato, Alhaji Abun Buhari, Alhaji Faruku Alhaji, and Abubakar Furniture.

Investigations uncovered that Bello Ibrahim allegedly manufactured and sold unauthorized revolvers to these individuals, under the pretense of self-defense, without any approved firearm licenses—an offense that contravenes Nigeria’s Firearms Act.

During the crackdown conducted in Tambuwal Local Government Area, officers recovered several illegal firearms, four rounds of LAR ammunition, and one round of AK-47 ammunition from the suspects.

In further developments, on April 23, 2025, officers from Tureta Police Station intercepted Yau Lawali of Yabawa Village, Bakura LGA, Zamfara State, during a routine stop-and-search operation. He was caught in possession of two locally crafted firearms and three rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

Similarly, on April 19, 2025, the Kebbe Police Division arrested three suspects—Danagaji Bala, Sani Muhammad, and Danjuma of Dogon Marke Village. The trio was found with a locally produced revolver and 19 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

The Sokoto State Police Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and properties. Authorities also urged citizens to promptly report suspicious movements and activities to law enforcement rather than engaging in vigilantism.
