Sokoto Governor Swears In Kebbe LG Chairman, New Head of Service, Advisers

The Sokoto State Government has officially sworn in a new chairman for Kebbe Local Government Area following the demise of the council’s elected leader.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu administered the oath of office to Musa Garba Kuchi, who was appointed to take over the leadership of Kebbe Local Government Area after the death of the former chairman, Abdullahi Yarima. The late chairman passed away only a few months after emerging victorious in the local government election, leaving the council leadership vacant.

Kuchi’s appointment is to ensure continuity in governance and administration within the local government, as he is expected to complete the remaining tenure of the deceased chairman. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Sokoto, the state capital, and was attended by senior government officials and stakeholders.

During the event, Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of grassroots leadership and presence, urging the new council chairman to reside within Kebbe Local Government Area rather than operate from outside the community. According to the governor, this would enable effective supervision, faster response to issues, and stronger engagement with residents.

The governor further highlighted that Kebbe is one of the local government areas currently experiencing security concerns, stressing the need for the chairman to work closely with security agencies operating in the area. He noted that collaboration between local authorities and security operatives is critical to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

In the same ceremony, Governor Aliyu also swore in Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed as the new Head of the Sokoto State Civil Service, alongside five Special Advisers and twelve Permanent Secretaries, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and public administration in the state.

Addressing the new Head of Service, the governor charged him with the responsibility of enforcing discipline, improving productivity, and enhancing overall efficiency within the state civil service. He stressed that punctuality, dedication to duty, and strict adherence to established work ethics must be taken seriously across all ministries and departments.

Governor Aliyu also clarified the distinct roles of Special Advisers and Permanent Secretaries, calling for a well-defined working relationship between both offices. He explained that while Special Advisers are responsible for providing political guidance and policy direction, Permanent Secretaries handle administrative leadership and implementation within ministries, departments, and agencies.

The governor issued a strong warning on accountability and transparency, insisting that proper record-keeping must be upheld at all times. He made it clear that any form of mismanagement or misuse of public funds would attract serious consequences, as the administration remains committed to prudent financial management.

In addition, Governor Aliyu encouraged civil servants across the state to remain steadfast and committed to their duties, assuring them that the government is actively working to address outstanding salary payments, pensions, and gratuity obligations.
