NPA Introduces Simplified Export Processes at Nigerian Seaports, Encourages Exporters to Leverage New Opportunities
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has rolled out streamlined export processes aimed at boosting Nigeria’s global trade competitiveness. During the Kaduna International Trade Fair, the Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, invited exporters to leverage these simplified systems, specifically designed to ease export procedures and create new opportunities for Nigerian businesses.
Speaking at NPA’s ‘Special Day’ at the trade fair, Dr. Dantsoho highlighted the authority’s commitment to facilitating seamless export activities through the introduction of Export Processing Terminals (EPTs). These terminals serve as one-stop hubs for cargo consolidation, packaging, documentation, certification, and direct shipment, all managed through an electronic call-up system to ensure faster turnaround times at the seaports.
“The EPTs eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and duplication of efforts, which previously hindered Nigerian exports in the global market,” Dr. Dantsoho explained.
Empowering SMEs and Strengthening Trade Value Chains
To further enhance port-hinterland connectivity, the NPA has linked the EPTs with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs) in collaboration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and other key partners. This synergy aims to provide Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) with streamlined access to international markets, fostering inclusivity in Nigeria’s export value chain.
Dr. Dantsoho emphasized that the NPA’s initiatives align with the federal government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda and the theme of the 2024 Kaduna Trade Fair—“Promoting Efficiency in Manufacturing, Agriculture, and Trade through Digital Transformation.”
Driving Full Automation with National Single Window (NSW)
In line with global best practices, the NPA is implementing the Ports Community System (PCS), laying the groundwork for the National Single Window (NSW) platform. This fully automated system will connect all stakeholders in the trade value chain, enabling seamless interactions with just a click, significantly improving efficiency in Nigeria’s export sector.
“Our goal is to bridge local value creators with global demand clusters, ensuring that even producers in the remotest parts of Nigeria can access international markets,” Dr. Dantsoho stated.

The NPA Managing Director also praised the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines & Agriculture (KADCCIMA) for its continuous efforts in fostering trade growth and sustaining the vibrant atmosphere of the Kaduna International Trade Fair. He highlighted Kaduna’s strategic location as a major transportation hub and gateway to Nigeria’s northern hinterland, extending opportunities to landlocked neighboring countries.
Kaduna’s agro-allied potential further strengthens NPA’s vision of connecting local producers in non-oil sectors to international markets, a move expected to boost Nigeria’s economy and diversify its export portfolio.
