Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, and the Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, have lauded the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect for its relentless efforts in fostering peace, unity, and religious harmony in the country. Both leaders made their remarks during the 2025 National Tijjaniyya Maulud, which took place at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, attracting an unprecedented crowd of followers and dignitaries.

However, the Kano State Government, led by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, held a press conference at the Emir’s Palace to assure the public of the event’s safety. The government countered the security agencies’ stance, insisting that the religious gathering posed no threat.

Represented by Alhaji Babagana Fannami, Vice President Shettima commended the Tijjaniyya sect for adhering to the core teachings of Islam over the past century. Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, Shettima praised the guiding principles of the Sufi sect and their contributions to humanity, describing them as vital in promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

Governor Yusuf, the Chief Host of the event, expressed gratitude to the Tijjaniyya followers who traveled from various parts of the country to attend the Maulud. He commended their consistent efforts in maintaining peaceful and harmonious relationships with other sects, emphasizing that such unity is essential for the country’s development.
“As your host, I appreciate all of you for coming to Kano to honor this year’s Maulud for Sheik Ibrahim Niass,” the Governor stated, reaffirming his administration’s support for religious tolerance and unity.
