Shettima in Switzerland for World Economic Forum

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Davos, Switzerland, where he will lead Nigeria’s official delegation to the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The high-level global gathering, which convenes influential political figures, business executives, development partners, and policy leaders from around the world, is scheduled to hold from January 19 to January 23, 2026.

Before his arrival in Switzerland, the Vice President had been in Conakry, Guinea, where he represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration ceremony of President Mamadi Doumbouya, which took place on Friday.

A statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications confirmed that upon his arrival in Davos, Shettima was formally received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, as well as officials from the Nigerian Mission in Switzerland.

This year’s World Economic Forum represents a significant moment in Nigeria’s engagement with the annual Davos meeting. For the first time, the Federal Government of Nigeria has established a dedicated sovereign pavilion along the Davos Promenade.

The pavilion, known as “Nigeria House Davos,” was created through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement. The facility is designed to function as a central space for ministerial interactions, investment discussions, policy dialogues, and cultural diplomacy activities throughout the duration of the forum.

During his stay, the Vice President is expected to officially commission Nigeria House Davos, marking its formal introduction at the global event.

Speaking with journalists following Shettima’s arrival, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole stated that Nigeria would use the platform to deliver a strong and strategic presentation of its investment prospects during the launch of the pavilion.

According to her, Nigeria will be unveiling four investment playbooks that highlight President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to restructure and reposition the Nigerian economy. She explained that these presentations would focus on the country’s solid minerals sector, climate sustainability initiatives, agricultural value chains, and the creative and digital economy, targeting potential investors from across the globe.

In a related development, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, disclosed that Shettima will present Nigeria’s 2026 economic outlook to global leaders participating in the forum.

He further noted that the Vice President is expected to take part in plenary sessions addressing key emerging issues, including the responsible application of Artificial Intelligence, advances in quantum computing, and developments within the biotechnology sector.

Throughout the week, Shettima is also scheduled to engage in bilateral meetings with heads of state, senior executives of multinational corporations, and leaders of international development finance institutions, as part of Nigeria’s broader diplomatic and economic engagement strategy.

The annual World Economic Forum in Davos typically attracts thousands of participants, including government leaders, corporate executives, civil society representatives, policy experts, and members of the international press.

The 2026 edition of the forum is expected to concentrate on global economic pressures, technological transformation, and climate-related action, providing a platform for dialogue on shared global challenges and solutions.
