Security Boost at Sagamu Interchange Following Safety Concerns
In response to growing security concerns at the Sagamu Interchange, the Ogun State Police Command has ramped up protective measures to ensure the safety of residents and commuters. The police authorities have assured the public that necessary steps have been taken to prevent criminal activities at the location.
Addressing Social Media Reports of Criminal Incidents
Recent social media reports have sparked concerns over criminal activities at the Sagamu Interchange. A widely shared post alleged that a pastor was robbed and fatally attacked under the bridge at the interchange, prompting fears about the area’s safety.
According to the viral report, the pastor, who was returning from a vigil on March 22, 2025, was attacked by criminals after being dropped off under the bridge. The assailants reportedly inflicted severe machete wounds, leaving him unattended for hours before he was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The report also mentioned similar attacks, including one involving a young woman traveling from Lagos who sustained multiple injuries.
Police Response and Reinforced Security Measures
Reacting to the claims, Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola clarified that no such case had been formally reported at any police station. However, in a proactive move, Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo led security reinforcements at the interchange.
The enhanced security measures include the deployment of personnel from the Quick Intervention Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 and 16. These teams have been strategically stationed at key points, including under the bridge, at the roundabouts, and along major access routes.
Additionally, a recent two-hour drone surveillance operation identified several illegal shanties and unauthorized revenue collection points by touts. As a result, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate cessation of all commercial activities under the bridge, with unauthorized structures scheduled for removal starting April 3, 2025.
Police Advisory for Commuters
To further enhance safety, the Ogun State Police Command has advised commuters to plan their travels during daylight or early evening hours to minimize risks. Authorities have reassured the public that all necessary measures are being implemented to maintain peace and order in the state.
