Russia launched a drone assault on Kyiv overnight, injuring at least seven individuals and causing fires in multiple residential buildings across the capital.
Widespread Damage and Casualties Reported
Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, described the attack as a large-scale offensive, stating on Telegram that emergency responders were deployed to multiple districts affected by the onslaught.
“So far, seven residents of the capital have been injured. One of them has been hospitalised,” Klitschko reported.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed that debris from intercepted drones ignited fires in high-rise apartments in the Podil and Dniprovskyi districts, further escalating the crisis.
Impact on Surrounding Regions
Regional governor Mykola Kalashnik also confirmed via Telegram that two additional people sustained injuries outside Kyiv, with several homes suffering damage due to falling wreckage.
Ongoing Conflict Between Russia and Ukraine
Russia has yet to issue a statement regarding the attack. However, both Moscow and Kyiv have persistently denied targeting civilians throughout the prolonged conflict, which started in 2022 with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The United States has been advocating for a peace settlement, with diplomatic efforts aimed at negotiating a ceasefire that would prevent further strikes on energy infrastructure. However, military actions have continued on both sides despite international mediation attempts.
Extended Air Raid Alerts
Ukraine’s Air Force maps indicate that air raid alerts lasted for over five hours, affecting Kyiv, its surrounding territories, and the entire eastern region of Ukraine late Saturday night.
