Rivers State Assembly Issues Arrest Warrant For RSIEC Chairman & Commissioners

The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially issued an arrest warrant against Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Retd.), the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), along with four commissioners. This action follows their failure to honor the Assembly’s summons.

The warrant was declared after a 72-hour ultimatum expired on Monday. This ultimatum followed a prior 48-hour deadline, which lapsed the previous Friday, prompting lawmakers to take decisive action.

During a plenary session on Monday, Speaker Martin Amaewhule and the legislators unanimously supported issuing the arrest warrant, emphasizing the necessity for accountability from RSIEC officials.

Meanwhile, Ibiemebo Evelyn Thompson, the RSIEC Commissioner overseeing Transport, Logistics, and Store, formally resigned on Monday. Her resignation aligns with the Supreme Court’s recent verdict, which nullified the October 5, 2024, local government elections in Rivers State. This follows the earlier resignation of two other RSIEC commissioners, Lazberry Nnah and Professor Simeon Weli, who also stepped down last week for similar reasons.

As of now, Justice Adolphus Enebeli has not responded to the Assembly’s summons, leaving uncertainty about his next course of action.
