Rio Ferdinand Urges Manchester United to Sign Baleba Instead of Sesko

Former Manchester United star and football pundit, Rio Ferdinand, has expressed a strong opinion on the club’s transfer strategy, suggesting they prioritize signing Carlos Baleba from Brighton rather than investing in another striker.

Ferdinand, a legendary figure at Old Trafford, believes the Cameroonian midfielder offers the kind of quality and versatility the team needs more urgently than a forward. According to him, Manchester United should divert their focus from RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who is currently making headlines due to his impressive performance in the Bundesliga.

Sesko, the Slovenian international, has attracted the attention of United after delivering 39 goals and eight assists while playing for the German side. His rising profile has made him a top prospect during the summer transfer window, with multiple clubs reportedly vying for his signature.

However, during an episode of Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former defender emphasized the value of strengthening United’s midfield with a player like Baleba, who fits the mold of modern midfielders capable of impacting every part of the pitch.

“A player in the mold of Amorim. Great physical presence, strong at ball progression, capable of receiving the ball across all areas of the field. Tactically sound, full of energy, with great mobility, and Premier League-proven in central midfield — that’s Baleba,” Ferdinand explained.

He added with conviction, “That’s the kind of player I would target. That’s my pick. I would go all out financially to secure him.”

Furthermore, Ferdinand argued that the potential funds raised from the sale of current players like Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho should be sufficient to fund the transfer of Baleba from Brighton.

These three players, alongside others, are rumored to be on the summer transfer list, and notably, they have also been excluded from Ruben Amorim’s squad for the club’s pre-season tour. This development suggests that Manchester United may indeed be preparing for a major squad reshuffle, possibly to accommodate a signing like Baleba.
