Popular Nigerian Afrobeats star, Rema, has opened up about how online trolling turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him.
During a video interview shared across social media platforms, the internationally recognized singer expressed that being trolled actually had unexpected advantages. According to him, the negativity he once received is now contributing significantly to his success.
The ‘Calm Down’ hitmaker reflected on the doubts people had about his distinctive sound, saying it would have been deeply discouraging if he had allowed the harsh criticism to derail his dreams.
“It’s amazing to see that the very thing I was mocked and criticized for is now paying off,” Rema said. “Just imagine if I had stopped. If I had taken what people said seriously and decided to shut everything down.”
He continued, “Now, four years later, I’m reaping the rewards. And there’s still more to come. It’s a massive achievement because I was the first Afrobeats artist to tour India, and I believe I’m the first African artist to do so. That’s a huge milestone.”
