The newly appointed General Manager of Radio Niger, Mohammed Kolo, has called on the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to grant the station a dedicated power supply. He emphasized the need for an uninterrupted electricity supply at the station’s transmission center in Maitumbi and its headquarters on Shiroro Road, Minna.
Kolo expressed concerns over the persistent power challenges affecting the station’s operations, stressing that unreliable electricity has significantly hindered their ability to deliver timely news and programs.
During a visit to the AEDC Niger Regional Office in Minna, Kolo and his management team formally appealed for a stable power supply. He highlighted the vital role that electricity plays in media operations, stating that Radio Niger must maintain its responsibility of informing, educating, and entertaining the public without interruptions.
The General Manager urged AEDC to prioritize Radio Niger in power allocation, ensuring seamless transmission and operational efficiency.
AEDC’s Response to Radio Niger’s Request
Engr. Dr. Samuel Odekina, the Chief Business Officer of AEDC Niger Region, acknowledged the concerns raised and assured that plans are in place to enhance electricity supply to the station. He disclosed that Radio Niger’s Maitumbi transmission station would receive between 12 to 16 hours of electricity daily to improve its broadcast efficiency.
Additionally, he granted a 10-hour daily power supply to Radio Niger FM Maitumbi, reinforcing the station’s ability to provide quality information to the public.
Odekina also praised Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago for his significant investments in infrastructure and the power sector. He assured that AEDC remains committed to delivering a steady power supply, promising 12 hours of electricity across the state daily.
