UK PM Starmer Says Putin is Not Serious About Peace Talks
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin as an unserious participant in peace negotiations, stating that his actions contradict his statements. In contrast, Starmer acknowledged that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has demonstrated genuine commitment to finding a resolution.
Speaking ahead of a high-level summit in Paris, where Kyiv’s allies were set to gather on Thursday, Starmer criticized Putin’s inconsistent approach to diplomatic efforts. He pointed out that Moscow has repeatedly failed to uphold commitments, particularly regarding ceasefire agreements.
“Playing games with the agreed naval ceasefire in the Black Sea, despite good faith participation from all sides, all while continuing to inflict devastating attacks on the Ukrainian people—his promises are hollow,” the UK prime minister stated.
Putin’s approach to negotiations has raised concerns among Western allies, who continue to support Ukraine both militarily and diplomatically. Experts argue that without serious engagement from Moscow, achieving a lasting ceasefire remains unlikely.
