Six Nigerian scientists and engineers were named on President Biden’s prestigious PECASE honours list. President Tinubu celebrates their exceptional achievements in advancing global science and technology.
President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to six outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora who were recognized by U.S. President Joe Biden as part of the 400 recipients of the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
Established in 1996 by former U.S. President Bill Clinton, PECASE is the highest accolade presented by the U.S. government to early-career scientists and engineers for their groundbreaking contributions to science, technology, and engineering.
This year, President Joe Biden announced the honorees on January 14, 2025, highlighting their affiliation with or funding by 14 key U.S. government agencies. Among these exceptional individuals are six Nigerians whose accomplishments have brought pride to their homeland.

- Azeez Butali
- Gilbert Lilly Endowed Professor of Diagnostic Sciences, College of Dentistry, University of Iowa.
- Ijeoma Opara
- Associate Professor of Public Health (Social and Behavioral Sciences), Yale School of Public Health, Yale University.
- Oluwatomi Akindele
- Postdoctoral Researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
- Eno Ebong
- Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, and Biology, Northeastern University.
- Oluwasanmi Koyejo
- Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Stanford University.
- Abidemi Ajiboye
- Executive Vice Chair, Case School of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Case Western Reserve University.
President Tinubu’s Message of Encouragement
President Tinubu commended these exceptional scientists and engineers for their remarkable contributions to their respective fields. He emphasized that this recognition is a testament to the extraordinary potential of Nigerians to excel not only locally but also on the global stage.
The President also expressed optimism that these honorees’ multidisciplinary expertise would be instrumental in advancing Nigeria’s development agenda under his Renewed Hope Initiative.
