Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has shed light on the reasons behind his ongoing beef with popular rapper and music executive Olamide.
In a recent interview on EchoRoom, Portable disclosed that his conflict with Olamide stems from what he perceives as a lack of support during his early rise to fame. Despite collaborating on the remix of his 2021 hit single ‘Zazu,’ Portable feels that Olamide didn’t offer enough assistance, especially when it came to his career development.
The ‘Zazu’ hitmaker explained, “I can’t blame Skepta because he supported me more than Olamide did. While Olamide gave me a verse for the ‘Zazu’ remix, he didn’t provide the necessary support that would have helped me grow professionally. He didn’t offer me management or guidance, leaving me to navigate the industry on my own.”
Portable also mentioned that Olamide’s involvement ended after the song’s release, with the rapper not offering any further opportunities to work together. The singer noted that, despite the collaboration, Olamide didn’t sign him to his label, which was a missed opportunity, especially now that Portable has grown into a global superstar.
In the past, Portable had also accused Olamide of “snatching” his producer, dancer, and promoter. However, Olamide has yet to comment on these accusations, leaving fans and industry insiders wondering about the true nature of their professional relationship.
Portable’s statement highlights the complex dynamics in the Nigerian music industry and raises questions about the extent of support emerging artists need from established stars.
