2 minutes, 2 seconds Read

Popular Nigerian singer Portable, legally known as Okikiola Badmus, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, following his failure to fulfill the bail conditions handed down by the Upper Area Court.

The embattled artist, widely recognized for his breakout hit “Zazoo Zeh,” appeared before the court to address allegations of defamation of character filed by renowned Fuji musician Saheed Osupa, born Akorede Saheed.

Details of the Bail Conditions

According to reports, Portable was granted bail in the sum of ₦1 million but was unable to meet the accompanying conditions. The court mandated that:

  • He must provide two sureties of the same bail amount.
  • One surety must be a Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN).
  • The other surety must be a property owner in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) as proof.

Due to the inability to satisfy these requirements, the judge ordered that Portable be held in custody pending the fulfillment of the bail terms.

Why Portable Was Charged

The legal trouble stems from a public dispute in which Portable allegedly made defamatory statements about Saheed Osupa, a highly respected figure in the Nigerian music industry. These accusations were deemed severe enough to warrant legal proceedings.

This development has once again placed the spotlight on Portable’s controversial behavior, a pattern that has previously landed him in conflicts with the law and fellow artists.

Public and Industry Reaction

The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media and in the entertainment industry. While some fans express sympathy for Portable, others believe this may be a wake-up call for him to manage his public image more responsibly.
