Popular but controversial Nigerian street-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has reportedly evaded police arrest following an alleged physical altercation involving his fourth baby mama, actress Ashabi Simple.
A video that surfaced online captured a tense moment between both parties. In the footage, Ashabi was seen holding onto Portable’s clothing while expressing frustration over being repeatedly referred to as just a “baby mama.” She emotionally demanded that the singer acknowledge her as his wife and not merely the mother of his child.
During the exchange, Ashabi was heard insisting that she deserved recognition beyond the title of baby mama, stating that she was exhausted from the constant labeling. Portable, however, reacted forcefully by pushing her away and making it clear that he only recognizes one woman as his wife, identified as Bewaji.
Visibly emotional, Ashabi responded passionately, declaring that she was willing to face death rather than accept the humiliation, a statement that shocked many viewers who later watched the viral clip.
Following the incident, Ashabi, alongside her siblings, proceeded to report the matter to the police, accusing Portable of assault, abuse, and intimidation.
In a separate video shared on her Instagram page, Ashabi narrated her side of the story in detail. She explained that she had initially spent the New Year celebrations peacefully with her family before receiving a call from Portable, who allegedly told her he was not in a good mood.
She further claimed that Portable requested she bring New Year food to his bar, a request she agreed to. Upon arriving at the bar, she contacted him and was asked to meet him outside. It was during this meeting that a disagreement reportedly broke out, leading to her being slapped and physically attacked.
Ashabi alleged that Portable seized their phones and threatened her and her siblings with an axe, escalating the situation into one of fear and distress. She added that when the police later visited Portable’s residence, they encountered his pregnant wife, Bewaji, as the singer had already fled the scene to avoid arrest.
The incident has continued to stir mixed reactions across Nigeria’s online space. While some social media users condemned Portable’s alleged actions, others criticized Ashabi, accusing her of forcing herself into the singer’s life. A section of commentators also expressed concern over what they described as emotional dependency and low self-esteem.
As of the time of reporting, the matter remains a subject of intense public debate, with many calling for accountability and others urging restraint and deeper reflection on relationship boundaries and domestic conflicts involving public figures.
