Portable Arraigned in Court, Remanded Over Alleged Assault and Car Theft

Popular Nigerian street-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known by his stage name Portable, has been formally charged before a Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, over multiple criminal allegations.

The controversial musician appeared in court on Monday, where he faced a nine-count charge brought against him by the Ogun State Police Command. The charges reportedly border on serious criminal offences, including physical assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting lawful arrest.

According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the case followed a formal complaint linked to an incident that allegedly occurred at Portable’s bar located in Iyana Ilogbo, Ogun State, on New Year’s Day.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the singer was accused of engaging in violent conduct against several individuals during the incident. Among those listed as alleged victims are Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.

The situation reportedly gained public attention after a video surfaced online on Sunday showing Portable in police custody. The clip quickly went viral, sparking widespread reactions across social media platforms. The arrest was said to be connected to a complaint filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

Investigators allege that Portable physically attacked Ashabi and others at the venue. Although Ashabi did not appear in court during the arraignment, it was revealed that two of her siblings were present and testified as witnesses in relation to the alleged assault.

In addition to the assault allegations, Portable was also accused of unlawfully taking a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at approximately ₦12 million. The vehicle reportedly belongs to Ileyemi Damilola and was said to have been purchased from Wally Dex Auto.

The prosecution further informed the court that the singer allegedly obstructed and assaulted a female police officer, identified as Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties during the incident.

During the court session, Portable’s legal team applied for bail. However, the presiding judge declined the request. The judge explained that bail could not be considered because the police officer who was allegedly assaulted was not present in court to testify.

The court maintained that the appearance of the affected officer was necessary before any decision on bail could be made. As a result, the singer was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case and scheduled a fresh bail hearing for January 19, 2026, at which point the court is expected to review the bail application once all required parties are present.

The case continues to attract significant public attention, especially given Portable’s history of controversies and outspoken public image.
